Դեկտեմբերի 11-ին Սիրիայում ՀՀ դեսպան Տիգրան Գևորգյանն իր հավատարմագրերը հանձնեց Սիրիայի Արաբական Հանրապետության նախագահ Բաշար Ալ-Ասադին (Bashar al-Assad):

Ինչպես  տեղեկացրին ԱԳՆ տեղեկատվության եւ հանրային դիվանագիտության վարչությունից, ՍԱՀ նախագահի արարողակարգի շարասյունով դեսպան Գևորգյանը ժամանեց՝ ՍԱՀ նախագահի նստավայր՝ Դամասկոսի «Ժողովրդական Պալատ», որտեղ նրան դիմավորեց պալատի պատվո պահակախումբը Հայաստանի և Սիրիայի օրհներգների ներքո:

Պաշտոնական ընդունելությունների դահլիճում տեղի ունեցավ դեսպան Գևորգյանի հավատարմագրերի հանձնման արարողությունը, իսկ այնուհետև՝ առանձնազրույցը ՍԱՀ նախագահի հետ՝ փոխվարչապետ Վալիդ Ալ-Մուալլիմի (Walid Muallem) և նախագահի հարցերով նախարար Մանսուր Ազզամի (Mansour Azzam) մասնակցությամբ:

Ողջունելով ՀՀ նորանշանակ դեսպանին՝ նախագահ Բաշար Ալ-Ասադը նրան հաջողություն մաղթեց կարևոր և պատասխանատու առաքելության մեջ: ՍԱՀ նախագահն ընգծեց, որ Սիրիայի համար Հայաստանի հետ հարաբերությունները մշտապես մեծ կարևորություն են ունեցել և Հայաստանն՝ ի դեմս իր դեսպանի, վայելելու է սիրիական իշխանությունների լիակատար և անվերապահ աջակցությունը ցանկացած հարցում:

Շնորհակալություն հայտնելով ջերմ ընդունելության և բարեմաղթանքների համար՝ դեսպան Գևորգյանը խոստացավ ջանք չխնայել հայ-սիրիական բարեկամական հարաբերությունների ամրապնդման և խորացման համար:
