Everything the Kardashians Did in the Final Episode of The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story
ՀասարակությունFor weeks now, at least part of American Crime Story's riveting interpersonal narratives seemed to have been building up to a blow-out between O.J. and Robert Kardashian — the latter's breakdown under the pressure of the former's guilt etched deeper and deeper into David Schwimmer's browline as each episode played out. Also, he promised Kris he'd ditch The Juice. Nobody lies to Kris Jenner, surely?! So did the season finale feature good ol' boy Bobby venting his spleen as he's so clearly needed to do? Well, he did throw up a bunch, but otherwise... it's hard to say beyond "reasonable doubt."
ROBERT KARDASHIAN
Again the only Kardashian to make the cut this week (i.e. no Kris, not even for the finale), we saw lots of Robert's outwardly-supportive-but-inwardly-broken puppy dog mopeface during the last batch of courtroom scenes, which dragged out the suspense well even though everyone, literally everyone, knows how the O.J. trial ended up. But did we know Robert ran from the courtroom to go be sick in a men's restroom down the hall!? I certainly did not. The quick post-vom moment with him looking in the mirror and clearly hating what he sees juxtaposed well, i.e. harshly, with the later scene of O.J., after a relaxing shower back at his Brentwood mansion doing just the same (except appreciating the reflection). Also, O.J.'s butt!
As it happens, the final face-off between the former friends played out more with what was unsaid than said, shouted, fought over etc. etc. Having met O.J. at jail, having escorted him home, having come to his Star magazine-sponsored "party of the century" that same night (all very valid opportunities to pop the fuck off, or at least recite a Lauren Conrad-style "we're not friends" line), Robert finally left having just told O.J.'s son that "I'm done." And he left his Bible — the Bible he'd given O.J. back in one of this season's first episodes — behind. As the end credits noted, he and O.J. didn't speak again IRL either. That was it.
Was it the most satisfying conclusion? Nope. But maybe that was the point.
