Հռոմի Ֆրանցիսկոս պապը հայերի հետ կատարվածն անվանելով 20-րդ դարի առաջին ցեղասպանություն`առաջնորդեց միջազգային հանրությանը ճանաչել Հայոց ցեղասպանությունը: Լրագրողների հետ ապրիլի 14-ին կայացած հանդիպմանն այսպիսի կարծիք հայտնեց ՀՀ ԱԺ պատգամավոր, ԵՄ-Հայաստան խորհրդարանական համագործակցության հանձնաժողովի համանախագահ Սամվել Ֆարմանյանը: «Ես կարևորում եմ Ամենայն Հայոց Գարեգին Բ-ի և Մեծի Տանն Կիլիկիո Արամ Ա կաթողիկոսների Վատիկանի Սբ Պետրոսի տաճարում առաջին անգամ աղոթք հնչեցնելու փաստը, ինչպես նաև հայ առաքելական և կաթոլիկ եկեղեցիների ամբողջ պատմության ընթացքում Հայ եկեղեցու սրբերի շա րքը դասված Գրիգոր Նարեկացուն Կաթոլիկ եկեղեցու տիեզերական վարդապետ հռչակելու որոշումը, որը մեծ իրադարձություն է բոլորիս համար»,-հայտնեց նա և հավելեց, որ վերը նշված իրադարձությունը նկատելիորեն բարձրացրել է հայ ժողովրդի լավատեսությունը:

Նա նկատեց, որ Թուրքիայից հնչած արձագանքները միանգմայն սպասելի էին, քանի որ թուրքական կողմն արել է հնարավոր ամեն ինչ` Հռոմի պապի պատարագը ձախողելու համար: «Ես կարծում եմ, որ թուրքական հասարակության՝ սեփական պատմությանն առերեսվելու ցանկություն ունեցող հատվածը Հռոմի պապի հայտարարությունից հետո ավելի լսելի կդարձնի իր խոսքը»,-շեշտեց Ֆարմանյանը և հավելեց, որ Հռոմի Ֆրանցիսկոս պապի հայտարարությունը շատ ավելի ծանրակշիռ և մեծ ազդեցություն է թողնելու համաշխարհային գործընթացների վրա: «Հայտնի փաստ է, որ Վատիկանը որպես պետութ յուն պատմականորեն սահմանափակված չէ միայն կաթոլիկ աշխարհում իր առաջնորդության դերով, ինչը մեզ հետագայում կարող է շատ օգնել»,-պարզաբանեց Սամվել Ֆարմանյանը:

Ապրիլի 12-ին Վատիկանի Սուրբ Պետրոսի տաճարում Հռոմի Ֆրանցիսկոս պապը մատուցեց Հայոց ցեղասպանության 100-րդ տարելիցին նվիրված պատարագ: Այս պատմական իրադարձությանը ներկա էին ՀՀ նախագահ Սերժ Սարգսյանը, Ամենայն Հայոց Գարեգին Բ կաթողիկոսը, Մեծի Տանն Կիլիկիո Արամ Ա կաթողիկոսÕ ¨, ինչպես նաև հայ կաթոլիկների պատրիարք Ներսես Պետրոս XIX-ը: Պատարագի ժամանակ Ֆրանցիսկոս պապը նշեց, որ 20-րդ դարում տեղի է ունեցել Ցեղասպանություն, որին զոհ են գնացել հայեր, հույներ ու ասորիներ: Պատարագի ընթացում Հայ եկեղեցու սրբերի շարքը դասված Գրիգոր Նարեկացին հռչակվեց Կաթոլիկ եկեղեցու տիեզերական վարդապետ:
