Orer.am-ի հետ զրույցում քաղաքագետ Սուրեն Սուրենյանցը նշեց. «Վատիկանի եկեղեցին ազդեցիկ կառույց է: Այդ կարևորությունը միայն հոգևոր ոլորտում չէ:Խոսքը նաև քաղաքական ազդեցության մասին է:

Պապի հայտարարությունը թեև կրկնում էր նրա նախորդի` Ցեղասպանության ճանաչման մասին հայտարարությունը, բայց արվեց միանգամայն այլ ձևաչափով: Այս հայտարարության առանձնահատկությունն այն է, որ դրան մասնակցում էին մեր հոգևոր առաջնորդները, ինչպես նաև Հայաստանի նախագահը, ինչը որոշակի առումով ավելի ազդեցիկ դարձրեց այս հայտարարությունը նախորդից:

Շատ կարևոր էր Գրիգոր Նարեկացուն Տիեզերական եկեղեցու վարդապետ հռչակելը: Սա որոշակի վերաբերմունք էր հայկական մշակույթին, Հայաստանին, հայկական հարցին: Անշուշտ, այս ամենն իրավաքաղաքական համատեքստ է փոխում մեզ համար, նպաստավոր համատեքստ Ցեղասպանության միջազգային ճանաչման գործում: Սակայն այս իրադարձության արդյունքները դժվար է կանխատեսել: Միանշանակ է, որ կլինեն դրական տեղաշարժեր, բայց կոնկրետ առարկայական արդյունքները կախված կլինի նաև Հայաստանի դիվանագիտության հետևողականությունից, աշխատանքի որակից: Սխալ կլինի միանգամից ենթադրել, որ Հռոմի պապի հայտարարությունն ավտոմատ բերելու է աշխարհիկ քրիստոնյա առաջնորդների կամ կաթոլիկ պետությունների կողմից ցեղասպանության ճանաչմանը:

Օրինակ՝ Հռոմի պապի հայտարարությանը հետևեց ՄԱԿ-ի գլխավոր քարտուղարի արձագանքը, որն այդպես էլ հրաժարվեց «ցեղասպանություն» բառն արտասանելուց, Գերմանիայի կառավարությունը նույնպես հրաժարվեց «ցեղասպանություն» բառն օգտագործելուց: Ասածս այն է, որ ստեղծվել է շատ ավելի բարենպաստ ֆոն, իհարկե, Վատիկանի պատարագը պատմական էր ձևի և բովանդակության առումով, բայց պետք չէ ակնկալել որ այդ իրադարձությունը կայծակնային ազդեցություն կունենա: Սա մեր դիվանագիտության ջանքերի արդյունքում է եղել, իհարկե, նաև տարածաշրջանային գործոնները կապ ունեն: Չի կարելի նման գլոբալ իրադարձությունը կապել միայն մեկ սուբյեկտի արդյունավետ գործունեության հետ»:
