Հայ ժողովուրդը պետք է չսպասի, որ ԱՄՆ նախագահ Բարաք Օբաման հայտարարի «Հայոց ցեղասպանություն», քանի որ նախ Օբաման դա չի անի՝ հակառակ բոլոր տված խոստումներին եւ երկրորդ՝ ԱՄՆ-ն վաղուց ընդունել է Հայոց ցեղասպանությունը. տեսակետը ԱՄՆ-ում հրատարակվող «Կալիֆոռնիա Կուրիեր» թերթի հրատարակիչ և խմբագիր Հարութ Սասունյանինն է: «Արմենպրես»-ի հետ զրույցում Սասունյանը հիշեցնում է, որ ԱՄՆ նախագահ Ռոնալդ Ռեյգանը 1981թ. արդեն ճանաչել է Հայոց ցեղասպանությունը:

«ԱՄՆ նախագահը հռչակագիր է ստորագրել Հայոց ցեղասպանության մասին, իսկ Կոնգրեսը երկու անգամ Հայոց ցեղասպանության մասին բանաձեւ է ընդունել: Օբամայի պետքը չունենք: Օբամայի ասել-չասելը ոչինչ չի փոխելու, որովհետև մենք ճանաչում ունենք նախագահի և Կոնգրեսի մակարդակով: Հետեւաբար, ջանքերի զուր վատնում է Օբամայի ելույթին սպասելն ու կարեւորություն տալը: Մենք պետք է զբաղվենք իրական պահանջատիրությամբ, ինչն է՝ գնալ դատարան և պահանջել այն բոլոր կորուստները, որոնք ունեցել ենք` անձնական, համայնքային և հողային»,- ասաց Սասունյանը: Նա շեշտում է, որ այդ առումով բարդություններ կլինեն, քանի որ մինչ այդ նման նախադեպ չի եղել, սակայն, անհնար ոչինչ չկա՝ հատկապես այն ժողովրդի համար, որ ցեղասպանություն է տեսել եւ վերապրել:

«Բարդ գործ է, քանի որ չենք արել նման գործ, չենք պատրաստել մասնագետների, մարդկանց և փաստաթղթերը: Պետք է անմիջապես սկսենք, որպեսզի մի հարյուր տարի ևս չվատնենք պարզապես Ցեղասպանության մասին խոսելու վրա»,- ասաց Սասունյանը:

Սենատոր եղած ժամանակ Բարաք Օբաման բազմիցս խոսել է Հայոց ցեղասպանության մասին եւ շեշտել, որ աշխարհը պետք է ճանաչի 20-րդ դարի առաջին ցեղասպանությունը: Լինելով նախագահի թեկնածու՝ նա ԱՄՆ հայ համայնքին հավաստիացրեց, որ ընտրվելու դեպքում կճանաչի Հայոց ցեղասպանությունը: Սակայն արդեն 10 տարի նա դրժում է իր խոստումն ու շարունակում թուրքական ժխտողական քաղաքականության գիծը: Օբամային իր խոստման մասին պարբերաբար հիշեցնում է նաեւ միջազգային մամուլը:
