«Freedom House» իրավապաշտպան կազմակերպությունը հրապարակել է 2015 թ.-ի աշխարհում մամուլի ազատության վարկանիշը: Զեկույցում մասնավորապես անդրադարձ է կատարվում Թուրքիայում առկա մամուլի ազատության խնդիրներին, ինչպես նաև դրանց սահմանափակման քաղաքական շարժառիթներին:

Ըստ զեկույցի՝ Թուրքիայի իշխանությունները շարունակաբար ձգտնում են ընդլայնել հեռահաղորդակցման կառավարման իրենց հնարավորությունները՝ շատ անգամ առանց դատարանի որոշման արգելափակելով մի շարք լրատվական կայքեր:

Օրենսդրության չարաշահման վառ օրինակներից է հանդիսանում թուրքական National Intelligence Organization (MİT) կազմակերպությունը, որին իշխանության կողմից ընձեռված է տեղեկատվական հարթակը վերահսկելու, ինչպես նաև լրատվական դաշտում հսկողություն սահմանլու լայն լիազորություններ:

Թեև Թուրքիայում գոյություն ունի ԶԼՄ-ների բազմազանություն, քաղաքական առաջնորդները սահմանափակում են դրանք՝ օգտագործելով տարատեսակ ճնշման ճանապարհներ, որոնք կիրառվում են լրատվամիջոցների սեփականատերերի նկատմամբ կամ ստեղծում են լրատվամիջոցների հարթակներ, որոնք անվերապահորեն աշխատում են իշխող կուսակցության օգտին:

Ապագայում Կառավարության՝ ազատ բանավեճի վերահսկումը Թուրքիայի քաղաքացիների օտարման կարող է հանգեցնել, ամփոփում է զեկույցը, որը կարող է երկրի համար պոտենցիալ սպառնալիք հանդիսանալ:

Թուրքական «Hurriet Daily News» պարբերականը օրեր առաջ նյութ էր հրապարակել Թուրքիայի իշխանական վերնախավում առկա ավտորիտար գործելաոճի վերաբերյալ, որը մասնավորպես դրսևորվում է ազատ խոսքի և մամուլի սահմանափակումներով:
Պարբերականը գրում է, երբ քաղաքական ճնշումների միջոցով լռեցնում են այլախոհությունը, սահմանափակում խոսքի ազատությունն ու իրավիճակը վերահսկելու նպատակով հալածում մամուլին, ապա սա բնութագրվում է որպես ավտորիտար ռեժիմների բնորոշ գործելաոճ:

Հոդվածում զուգահեռներ է անցկացվում վերջին շրջանում Ռուսաստանում և Թուրքիայում տեղի ունեցած մի քանի իրադարձությունների միջև: Մասնավորապես հիշատակվում է սույն թվականի ապրիլի 1-ը, երբ Ռուսաստանը ձեռնամուխ եղավ փակելու Ղրիմում թաթարական համայնքի հեռուստալիքը, և հենց նույն օրը Թուրքիայի վարչապետը հրահանգեց լրատվական դաշտի կոնկրետ ներկայացուցիչներին չլուսաբանել ահաբեկիչների ձեռքով սպանված դատախազի հուղարկավորությունը:

Ըստ պարբերականի՝ Դավութօղլուն իր այդ քայլը մեկնաբանում է իբրև ահաբեկչության տարածման դեմ պայքար, սակայն, իրականում այդ քայլերը հանդիսանում են դեռ նախորդ տարվանից սկսված մամուլի դեմ կիրառվող բռնաճնշումների տրամաբանական շարունակությունը:
