Ապրիլի 25-ից մենք նոր աշխարհում ենք գտնվում։ Նման կարծիք է հայտնել բրիտանացի լրագրող, Կարնեգի հիմնադրամի ավագ գիտաշխատող, կովկասագետ Թոմաս դե Վաալը՝ Reddit սոցցանցում պատասխանելով Հայոց ցեղասպանության եւ հայ-թուրքական հարաբերությունների վերաբերյալ հարցին։

«Ես կարծում եմ, որ ապրիլի 2-ից մենք նոր աշխարհում ենք գտնվում։ Լոս անջելեսցի հայ սյունակագիր Հարութ Սասունյանն արդեն գրել էր. «Մենք պետք է շրջենք Ցեղասպանության ճանաչման էջը եւ կենտրոնանանք իրավական հավակնությունների վրա»։ Կապրենք, կտեսնենք, թե ինչպե դա տեղի կունենա, բայց դա հետաքրքիր հայտարարություն էր։

Ինչպես ես ավել վաղ ասել էի, ես կարծում եմ, որ այս պահին հիմնական գործողություններն ընթանում են բուն Թուրքիայում, եւ եթե Թուրքիան ավելի բաց դառնա իր անցյալի եւ իր փոքրամասնությունների համար, իրականում դա դրական ազդեցություն կունենա հայկական հարցի վրա։ Դա նշանակում է, որ այստեղ իրականում կարեւոր խաղացողներն են քրդերը եւ Ժողովուրդների դեմոկրատական քրդական կուսակցությունը (HDP)։

Նրանք դիմել են հայերին, ներողություն խնդրել, վերականգնել տաճարները, նրանցից ոմանք օգտագործում են ցեղասպանություն բառը։ Եթե Ժողովուրդների դեմոկրատական կուսակցությունը Թուրքիայում հունիսին կայանալիք խորհրդարանական ընտրություններում հավաքի ձայների 10 տոկոսը, նա խորհրդարանի ներսում ուժ կդառնա եւ կներկայացնի ոչ միայն քրդերի, այլ նաեւ մյուս փոքրամասնությունների իրավունքները։ Եթե նա չհայտնվի խորհրդարանում, դա Թուրքիայում այդ տեսլականի համար մեծ հետընթաց կլինի»,- նշեց փորձագետը։

Հարցին, թե ինչու է նա, զբաղվելով Կովկասով, սկսել ուսումնասիրել նաեւ Հայոց ցեղասպանության հարցը, Թոմաս դե Վաալը բացատրեց, թե ինչու նա չի կարող անտեսել Հայոց ցեղասպանությունը։ «Երբ դուք Հայաստան եք այցելում, որոշ օրերի դուք նայում եք եւ հանկարծ տեսնում, որ Արարատ լեռը լցնում է ամբողջ հորիզոնը։ Որոշ օրերի էլ այն մշուշի մեջ է կամ չի երեւում, բայց նա միեւնույնն է այնտեղ է։ Որպես մարդ, որը ուսումնասիրում էր Կովկասը, կարծում եմ, ես ինչ-որ պահի հասկացա, որ 1915թ. Հայոց ցեղասպանությունն ու դրան մինչեւ 1921թ. հաջորդած արյունոտ պատմությունը նման են Արարատ լեռանը. դուք չեք կարող դրանք անտեսել»,- նշեց նա։
