Սիրիայի հարցով ՄԱԿ-ի հատուկ բանագնաց Ստեֆան դե Միստուրան մայիսի 5-ին Ժնևում առանձին բանակցություններ կսկսի սիրիական հակամարտության բոլոր կողմերի հետ: Ինչպես հաղորդում են լրատվամիջոցները, այս մասին հայտարարել է ՄԱԿ-ի գլխավոր քարտուղարի մամուլի խոսնակ Ահմադ Ֆաուզին՝ ավելացնելով, որ բանակցությունները կընթանան Ժնևի ՄԱԿ-ի գրասենյակում: Նա նաև նշել է, որ Ժնևում սիրիական հարցի վերաբերյալ խորհրդակցությունների համար բոլորին, առաջին հերթին, սիրիական կողմերին, հրավերներ են ուղարկվել: Նախատեսվում է, որ բանակցությունները կտևեն չորսից վեց շաբաթ:

Ֆաուզիի խոսքով՝ ժնևյան խորհրդակցություններին կմասնակցեն սիրիական կառավարության և ընդդիմության, տարածաշրջանի երկրների և միջազգային դաշնակիցների, ՄԱԿ-ի մշտական հինգ անդամ երկրների ներկայացուցիչները:

Ավելի վաղ տեղեկություններ են ստացվել, որ քննարկումների առաջին շաբաթվա ընթացքում հանդիպումներ տեղի կունենան Սիրիայի կառավարության և ընդդիմության ներկայացուցիչների, այդ թվում՝ ազգային կոալիցիայի հետ: Պաշտոնական Դամասկոսը կներակայացնի ՄԱԿ-ում Սիրիայի մշտական ներկայացուցիչ Բաշար ալ Ջաաֆարին: Հանդիպումների երկրորդ շաբաթվա ընթացքում նախատեսվում են հանդիպումներ ԱՄՆ-ի, Սաուդյան Արաբիայի, Թուրքիայի, Իրանի և Ռուսաստանի ներկայացուցիչների, ինչպես նաև Սիրիայի ներքին ընդդիմության հետ:
