Հայրենական մեծ պատերազմի տարիներին Բելառուսի ազատագրմանն իրենց կյանքը տված հայ զինվորների հիշատակին նվիրված խաչքարը, որն օրերս տեղադրվել է Բրեստում, առաջին հուշարձանն է, որ դրվում է այդտեղ այլ ազգի ներկայացուցիչների կողմից: Այս մասին ԱԺ-ում կայացած ասուլիսին հայտնեց հայ-բելառուսական միջխորհրդարանական համագործակցության հանձնաժողովի հայկական պատվիրակության ղեկավար, ԱԺ փոխնախագահ Էդուարդ Շարմազանովը՝ ներկայացնելով պատվիրակության՝ Բ ելառուս կատարած եռօրյա այցի արդյունքները: «Համաշխարհային պատերազմի տարիներին շատ ազգեր են մասնակցել Բելառուսի ազատագրմանը և Բրեստի ամրոցի պաշտպանությանը, սակայն առաջին հուշարձանը Բրեստում, փաստորեն, Բելառուսի իշխանությունների օժանդակությամբ տեղադրված խաչքարը նվիրվում է հայ ժողովրդին»,- Արմենպրեսի հաղորդմամբ՝ ընդգծեց Շարմազանովը:

Շարմազանովն ընդգծեց, որ խաչքարը տեղադրվել է հայ-բելառուսական միջխորհրդարանական համագործակցության հանձնաժողովի հայկական պատվիրակության անդամ Տաճատ Վարդապետյանի նախաձեռնությամբ և ռուսաստանաբնակ բարերար Անդրանիկ Սուրմալյանի հովանավորությամբ: ԱԺ փոխնախագահն ընդգծեց, որ բացի նրանից, որ Բրեստում տեղադրված խաչքարը նվիրվում է Բելառուսի ազատագրմանը մասնակցած հայերին, այն դառնում է նաև հայ-բելառուսական բարեկամության խորհրդանիշ:

ՀՀ ԱԺ փոխնախագահը նաև հայտնեց, որ բելառուս գործընկերների հետ քննարկումների արդյունքում հաստատել են, որ հայ-բելառուսական քաղաքական հարաբերությունները շատ ջերմ են, սակայն կաղում են առևտրատնտեսական հարաբերությունները, ինչի ուղղությամբ հարկավոր է ջանքեր գործադրել:
