Աֆրիկայի վայրի ցեղերի մոտ հայտնվելը նույնիսկ այսօր վտանգավոր է։ Եվ ոչ այն պատճառով, որ աբորիգենները «տանել» չեն կարողանում մարդկության զարգացած կեսին, այլ որովհետև ցանկացած պահի անզգույշ տուրիստը կարող է դառնալ համեղ ընթրիք։

Մարդակեր ցեղերից մեկը «մամբիլա»-ն է, որը ոչ մեծ խմբերով բնակվում է Նիգերիայում՝ Արևմտյան Աֆրկայում։ Այս ցեղախմբի զանգվածային մարդակերության մասին առաջին անգամ խոսվել է դեռևս 20-րդ դարի կեսերին՝ այդ երկիր մեկնած բարեգործական միսիոներների կողմից։ Այդ ժամանակ մարդակերությունը նույնիսկ խիստ պարտադիր էր ցեղախմբի բոլոր անդամների համար՝ մեծից փոքր։ Ըստ վկայությունների՝ նրանք իրենց թշնամիներին ուտում էին անմիջապես մարտի դաշտում, քանի որ հավատում էին, որ հակառակորդի ուժը մսի միջոցով փոխանցվում էր իրենց։

«Մինչև վերջերս բոլոր մամբիլաներն առանց բացառության մարդակեր են և կարող են այդպիսիք էլ մնացած լինել, եթե չլիներ իշխանությունների նկատմամբ ուժեղ վախը։ Նրանք պատերազմի ժամանակ ուտում էին իրենց հակառակորդներին, որոնց հետ խաղաղ պայմաններում տեղի էին ունենում նաև ամուսնություններ։ Եվ շատ հավանական էր, որ կռվի ժամանակ որևէ մեկն ուտում էր իր բարեկամին։ Միակ բացառությունն այն էր, որ նրանք երբեք չէին ուտում իրենց աներոջը, քանի որ հավատում էին, որ դա կարող է հանգեցնել լուրջ հիվանդությունների և վաղաժամ մահվան։ Մամբիլաների մարդակերության մեջ կրոնական հայացքները տեղ չունեին։ Եվ երբ նրանց հարցնում էին, թե ինչու են ուտում մարդկանց, պատասխանում էին, որովհետև նրանք միս են։ Որպես կանոն, նրանք մարդկանց ուտում էին հում վիճակում՝ առանց ավելորդ ձևականությունների։ Առանձին կտորներ տանում էին տուն՝ ծերերին, ովքեր նույնպես պաշտում էին այդ «կերակուրը»։ Նրանք ուտում էին նույնիսկ մարդու ներքին օրգանները։
Թշնամիների գանգերը, որպես կանոն, պահպանվում էին։ Եվ երբ երիտասարդները պատրաստվում էին առաջին անգամ կռվի մեկնել, նրանց ստիպում էին այդ գանգերից գարեջուր կամ այլ ըմպելիքներ խմել՝ հանուն քաջության։

Կանանց, ի դեպ, չէր թույլատրվում ուտել մարդու միս, ինչպես նաև ամուսնացած տղամարդկանց՝ կանանց միս, որոնց նրանք սպանում էին գյուղերի վրա հարձակվելիս։ Սակայն չամուսնացած ծերունիներն իրավունք ունեին սրտի ուզածի չափ ուտել կանանց միսը։

Այնուամենայնիվ, չնայած խիստ օրենքներին, «սպիտակ մսի» որսը շարունակվում է նաև այսօր։ Բնականաբար, այն հիմա ավելի գաղտնի կերպով է իրականացվում, և ժամանակակից մարդակերներից և ոչ մեկը չի բարձրաձայնում իր «համային ճաշակի» մասին։ Բայց բոլորն են հասկանում, որ նման վայրի սովորույթներից, ինչպես յուրատեսակ «թմրանյութից» հրաժարվելը գրեթե անհնար է։
