Улицы пригорода муниципалитета Арарас в штате Сан-Паулу напоминают город-призрак. Причина тому – ксеродерма пигментная, от которой страдает большинство жителей одной из здешних деревень. Из 800 местных около 600 не могут показаться на улице днем, потому как контакт с солнечным светом буквально сжигает их кожу.

Как минимум у 20 жителей проявляется очень агрессивный рак кожи, буквально поедая их кожный покров.
