Թուրքիայում ԱՄՆ-ի նախկին դեսպան Էրիկ Էդելմանը հայտարարել է, որ Սիրիայում եւ Իրաքում խալիֆայություն հաստատելու համար պայքարող «Իսլամական պետություն» (ԻՊ) ահաբեկչական խմբավորման վերացմանը, մեծ հաշվով, խոչընդոտել է Թուրքիայի նախագահ Ռեջեփ Թայիփ Էրդողանը: Այս մասին, ինչպես հաղորդում է «Արմենպրես»-ը, ամերիկացի դիվանագետը հայտնել է The New York Times թերթում հրապարակած հոդվածում:

Նշելով, որ ԻՊ-ին հարվածներ հասցնելու համար թուրքական «Ինջիռլիք» օդային ռազմաբազան ամերիկյան ինքնաթիռների թռիչքների համար Անկարայի թույլատրությունը «երկարաժամկետ առումով դժբախտություն է բերելու երկու կողմին էլ», Էդելմանը համոզմունք է հայտնել, որ դա չի նպաստելու ԻՊ-ի դեմ պայքարում ԱՄՆ-ի հաջողությանը եւ ծանր հետեւանքներ է ունենալու Թուրքիայի ներքին կայունության գործում:

Հոդվածում Էդելմանը զգուշացրել է ԱՄՆ-ի ղեկավարությանը, որ «Ինջիռլիքի» օգտագործման դիմաց թույլ չտան Էրդողանին ռազմական գործողություններ իրականացնել քրդերի դեմ: «Այդ համաձայնության ամենավատ արդյունքն այն է, որ Թուրքիային թույլատրվել է խիստ հարվածներ հասցնել Հյուսիսային Իրաքում ԻՊ-ի դեմ ԱՄՆ-ի ամենավստահելի դաշնակից սիրիացի քրդերին», -նշել է նա:

Էդելմանի խոսքով, Թուրքիան երբեք ԻՊ-ին վտանգավոր եւ ահաբեկչական չի համարել` մինչեւ այդ խմբավորումը չի սկսել կտրել արեւմուտքցի պատանդների գլուխները: «Թուրքիայի այդ ցավալի քաղաքականությունը Ասադի հետ կռվում բացեց արմատականների ճանապարհը: Թուրք քաղաքագետները ցանկանում են, որ Սիրիայում իշխանության գան Եգիպտոսի «Մուսուլման եղբայրներ»-ի նման սունի ազգայնական ծայրահեղականներ: Էրդողանը դրանով խոչընդոտներ հարուցեց ԻՊ-ի վերացման առաջ», -հոդվածում ընգծել է դիվանագետը:

Էդելմանի կարծիքով, խոչընդոտելով հունիսի 7-ի խորհրդարանական ընտրություններից հետո խորհրդարան անցած ընդդիմադիր կուսակցությունների հետ կոլաիցոն կառավարության ձեւավորմանը, Էրդողանը հույս ունի, որ առաջիկայում դիմակայություն կստեղծի քրդական Ժողովուրդների դեմոկրատական կուսակցության (ԺԴԿ) եւ Ազգայնական շարժում կուսակցության (ԱՇԿ) միջեւ, ինչով կկարողանա դա օգտագործել ինքնավարության համար պայքարող Քուրդիստանի աշխատավորական կուսակցության (PKK) եւ սիրիացի քրդերի Ժողովրդական ինքնապաշտպնական ջոկատների (YPG) դեմ օդային հարվածներ հասցնելու համար:

«Բացելով քրդերի դեմ նոր ճնշում գործադրելու ճանապարհը, Էրդողանը երկիրը դրել է ներքին պատերազմի ռիսկի տակ», -համոզմունք է հայտնել նա: Ամերիկացի դիվանագետը կասկած է հայտնել նաեւ Սիրիայում Թուրքիայի հետ սահմանում այսպես կոչված անվտանգության գոտի ստեղծելու` Անկարայի կողմից արվող համառության նկատմամբ: «Այդ անվտագության գոտին կարող է ապաստանի վերածվել արմատական իսլամիստների համար», -նշել է նա:
