Երեխայի ծնունդը, հավանաբար, ամենաերջանիկ օրն է ծնողների կյանքում: Դա երիտասարդ զույգի հարաբերություններում նոր փուլ է նշանավորում, սակայն Շելլի ու Ջերեմի Քոլիների համար այդ իրադարձությունը վերածվեց մղձավանջի:

Կեսարյան հատումից հետո նրան երեխան՝ Ռայլանը, լավ էր, իսկ մայրը ընկավ կոմայի մեջ: Կինը ծննդաբերությունից մի քանի ժամ անց դեռևս գտնվում էր անգիտակից:

Ամբողջ ընտանիքը աղոթում էր Շելլիի առողջության համար՝ հուսալով, որ նա կառողջանա ու կտեսնի իր փոքրիկին:

Բժիշկները ոչ մի շանս չէին տալիս, ու այդ ժամանակ բույժքույրերից մեկը մի հանճարեղ բան մտածեց:

Բուժքույրը սեփական փորձից գիտեր, որ նորածին երեխայի համար շփումը կենսական նշանակություն ունի:

Բժիշկները երեխային դրեցին մոր ձեռքերի մեջ, ու երեխան սկսեց լացել:

Ու տեղի ունեցավ հրաշք՝ մայրը սկսեց կյանքի նշաններ ցույց տալ:

Մի քանի օր անց Շելլին հավաքեց ուժերը ու վերադարձավ իր սովորական կյանքին:

«Բժիշկները կարծում են, որ երեխայի ճիչը ինձ ստիպեց պայքարել կյանքի համար»,- պատմում է մայրը:
