Աշխարհի շատ երկրների համար գերակա խնդիր համարվող կատաղության հիվանդությունները Հայաստանում չեն արձանագրվել 2009 թվականից մինչև այսօր: Սեպտեմբերի 28-ին լրագրողների հետ հանդիպմանն այս մասին հայտարարեց Հիվանդությունների վերահսկման և կանխարգելման ազգային կենտրոնի հատուկ վտանգավոր և օդակաթիլային վարակների բաժնի պետ Լիանա Թորո սյանը: 

«Կատաղության հիվանդությունը գերակա խնդիր է ինչպես շատ երկրների, այնպես էլ Հայաստանի համար: Կատաղության հիվանդություն Հայաստանում արձանագրվել է Շիրակի և Լոռու մարզերում` 2008 և 2009 թվականներին, համապատասխանաբար` 1 և 2 մահվան ելքերով»,- ասաց Թորոսյանը:

Կատաղության հիվանդությունը կենդանիներից մարդուն փոխանցվող վիրուսային վարակիչ հիվանդություն է, որի դեմ հատուկ բուժում չկա: Այն կանխարգելվում է պատվաստումների միջոցով: Եթե մարդու մոտ առկա  են կատաղությանը բնորոշ ախտանիշները, ապա հիվանդությունն ունենում է մահացու ելք: Այս հիվանդությունը հիմնականում ախտահարում է կենտրոնական նյարդային համակարգը և մարդը մահանում է սրտի կանգի արդյունքում: Հիվանդությունն  ունի գաղտնի շրջան,որը կարող է տևել 1 շաբաթից մինչև 1 տարի

Կատաղության հիվանդությունը մարդու մոտ սկսվում է 3 փուլով: Առաջին փուլում նկատվում են չոր հազ, ջերմություն, թուլություն, մկանացավեր, որոնք կարծես թե նմանվում են գրիպի ախտանշաններին, 2-րդ փուլում` 3-4 օր հետո, հիվանդն ագրեսիվ գրգռված պահվածք է ցուցաբերում, նրա մոտ առաջանում են լուսավախություն ջրավախություն, աղմուկի նկատմամբ դառնում են գերզգայուն, 3-րդ փուլում հիվանդն արդեն պարալիզվում է և հասնում մահվան:

«Եթե մարդը տուժել է կենդանու կողմից, ապա անհրաժեշտ է անհապաղ դիմել բժշկական օգնության և երբեք չի կարելի սպանել կենդանուն, քանի որ պատվաստումների հետագա կանխարգելիչ կուրսը կախված է կենդանու վարվելակերպից: Եթե հնարավորություն է լինում սահմանել հսկողություն կենդանու նկատմամբ, ապա 14 օրվա ընթացքում հեռվից հետևում են կենդանանու առողջական վիճակին»,- նշեց  փորձագետը:

2007 թվականից ի վեր սեպտեմբերի 28-ին նշվում է Կատաղության դեմ պայքարիհամաշխարհային օրը: Նպատակն այդ հիվանդության տարածման, ինչպես նաեւ դրահետեւանքների նկատմամբ ուշադրություն հրավիրելն է: Օրն ընտրվել է այն պատճառով, որ1895 թվականի սեպտեմբերի 28-ին է վախճանվել հայտնի միկրոկենսաբան Լուի Պաստերը՝կատաղության դեմ պատվաստանյութը ստեղծողներից մեկը: Կատաղության դեմ պայքարիդաշինքի տվյալներով, ամեն տարի աշխարհում 55 հազար մարդ է մահանում կատաղությունից:
