OXI DAY հիմնադրամը հոկտեմբերի 28-ին Ադրբեջանում բանտարկված իրավապաշտպան Լեյլա Յունուսին հանուն ազատության եւ ժողովրդավարության նրա անվեհեր պայքարի համար արժանացրել է Battle of Crete Award պարգեւի:

Այս մասին հայտնում է «Թուրան» լրատվական գործակալությունը:

«Մենք հավատում ենք, որ Դուք, ինչպես 2012 թվականի մեր հաղթող Աուն Սան Սու Ջին, հանդիսանում եք արիության իսկական օրինակ: Դուք այդ պարգեւին ներկայացվել եք Ժողովրդավարության ազգային հիմնադրամի (NED) նախագահ Կարլ Գերշմանի կողմից: Մենք լիահույս ենք, որ Ձեր եւ Ձեր ամուսնու ապօրինի ձերբակալության նկատմամբ ամբոջ աշխարհի ուշադրությունը վերջ կդնի դրան, եւ դուք կկարողանաք ներկա գտնվել Ձեր պատվին կազմակերպվելիք երեկոյին», -ասվում է Հիմնադրամի հայտարարության մեջ:

Պարգեւը հանձնեվել է Լեյլա եւ Արիֆ Յունուսների դստերը` Դինարա Յունուսին:

Oxi Day Battle of Crete Award պարգեւն ամեն տարի շնորհվում է կանանց` ազատության եւ ժողովրդավարության ոլորտում պաշտպանության, առաջխաղացման եւ նվաճումի գործում նրանց ցուցադրած արիության համար:

Այդ պարգեւը հիմնադրվել է Կրետա կղզու կանանց պատվին, որոնք անհավասար մարտի են բռնվել 1941 թվականի մայիսի 20-ին Կրետա կղզում իջեցված գերմանական դեսանտի հետ:

Լեյլա եւ Արիֆ Յունուս ամուսինները 2014 թվականի ամռանը ձերբակալվել եւ 2015 թվաքկանի օգոստոսին պետական դավաճանության եւ այլ մտացածին հանցագործությունների մեղադրանքներով դատապարտվել են համապատասխանաբար 8,5 եւ 7 տարվա բանտարկության: 

Նրանց փաստաբանները պնդում են, որ այդ մեղադրանքները ոչնչով հաստատված չեն: Amnesty International կազմակերպությունը նրանց «խղճի բանտարկյալներ» է ճանաչել:

Լեյլա Յունուսը եւ նրա ամսուսին Արիֆ Յունուսը մեղադրվում են, իբր, Հայաստանի օգտին լրտեսություն կատարելու մեջ, սակայն, նրանց հետապնդելու իրական պատճառը Ադրբեջանում առկա 98 քաղաքական բանտարկյալների խնդրի ակտուալացումն է եւ միջազգային կազմակերպություններին արված` Բաքվում 2015 թվականի մայջսին անցկացված Եվրոպական խաղերը բոյկոտելու մասին կոչերն են:

Լեյլա Յունուսը Ֆրանսիայի «Պատվո լեգիոն» շքանշանի ասպետ է: Նա արժանացել է նաեւ 2003 թվականի օգոստոսի 19-ին Իրաքում պայթյունի հետեւանքով զոհված ՄԱԿ-ի մարդու իրավունքների Բարձրագույն հանձնակատար Սերգիո Վիերիա դե Մելոնի (Sergio Vieria de Mello) անվան պարգեւի:  Լեյլա Յունուսը նաեւ ԹԷեոդոր Հաքերի գերմանական պարգեւի դափնեկիր է:

Տեղական եւ միջազգային հանրության աջակցությունը սրնթաց կերպով կորցնող ալիեւյան վարչակարգն իր իշխանությունը պաշտպանելու միակ ուղին տեսնում է ադրբեջանական հասարակությանը ճնշելու եւ վախ սերմանելու մեջ: Դրա համար ադրբեջանական իշխանությունները շարունակում են քաղաքացիական հասարակության եւ մամուլի դեմ բռնաճնշումները:
