Կալիֆոռնիայում տեղի Է ունեցել Breakthrough Prize գիտական խոշորագույն մրցանակի հանձնման արարողությունը

Կալիֆոռնիայում NASA-ի նախկին օդանավարանում տեղի Է ունեցել Breakthrough Prize գիտական խոշորագույն (դրամական արտահայտությամբ) մրցանակի  հանձնման արարողությունը: Պարգեւը սահմանել են ռուսաստանցի ներդրող Յուրի Միլները, Facbook-ի հիմնադիր Մարկ Ցուկերբերգը, Google-ի համահիմնադիր Սերգեյ Բրինը, ինչպես նաեւ Alibaba-ի հիմնադիր Ջեկ Ման՝ իրենց կանանց հետ համատեղ: Ի տարբերություն Նոբելյան մրցանակի, Breakthrough Prize-ը հանձնում են այն հետազոտող ներին, որոնք նոր են սկսել իրենց գործունեությունը գիտության բնագավառում: Այս մասին, ինչպես տեղեկացնում Է «Արմենպրես»-ը, գրել Է The New York Times-ը:

Կենսաբժշկական մրցանակն ստացել են Կառլ Դեյսերոտը եւ Էդվարդ Ս. Բոյդենն օպտոգենետիկայի՝ նյարդային բջիջների աշխատանքի հետազոտման մեթոդիկայի զարգացման բնագավառում ներդրած իրենց ավանդի համար: Այս մեթոդիկան թույլ Է տալիս կատարել ուղեղի մեխանիզների աշխատանքի հիմնարար հետազոտություններ:

Նաեւ երեք միլիոն դոլար Է ստացել պրոֆեսոր Ջոն Հարդին, որն զբաղվում Է նեյրոդեգեներատիվ հիվանդությունների, մասնավորապես, Ալցհայմերի հիվանդության ուսումնասիրությամբ: Հենց նա Է 1980-ական թվականների սկզբին հայտնաբերել այն գենը, որը ժառանգելիս սերնդին դատապարտում Է այս հիվանդության հայտնվելուն:     

Կենսաբժշկական մրցանակի Է արժանացել Հելեն Հոբսը, որն զբաղվում Է խոլեստերինի ուսումնասիրմամբ: Նրա կողմից PCSK9 գենի հայտնաբերման եւ հետագա ուսումնասիրման շնորհիվ հաջողվել Է ստեղծել պատրաստուկներ, որոնք մարդու մոտ իջեցնում են խոլեստերինի մակարդակը, ինչպես նաեւ սրտի նոպայի հավանականությունը:    

Վերջապես. կյանքի մասին գիտության բնագավառում եւս մեկ մրցանակ Է ստացել պրոֆեսոր Սվանտե Պաաբոն, որն առաջիններից մեկն Է սկսել ուսումնասիրել նեանդերթալցիներին, իսկ հետագայում գլխավոր դերը խաղացել այդ հնադարյան մարդկանց համագենի վերծանման հարցում: Գիտնականի գլխավոր վաստակն այն բանի հաստատումն Է, որ նախքան 40 հազար տարի առաջ նեանդերթալցիների բնաջնջվելը, նրանք զուգավորվել են մարդկանց հետ:    

Ֆունդամենտալ ֆիզիկայի գծով Breakthrough Prize-ը կստանա միանգամից 1300 մարդ՝ հինգ հետազոտական խմբերից, որոնք մանակցել են նեյտրինային տատանումների հայտնագործմանը: 2015 թվականին ֆիզիկայի գծով Նոբելյան մրցանակին արժանացել են կանադացի Արթուր Մակդոնալդը եւ ճապոնացի Տակաակի Կաձիտան, որոնց համարել են այս երեւույթի առաջին  հայտնագործողները: Այնուամենանայնիվ, Breakthrough Prize-ի հիմնադիրները համոզված են, որ այդ հայտնագործությունը շատ ավելի մեծ թվով մարդկանց վաստակն Է:

Մաթեմատիկայի բնագավառում Breakthrough Prize-ի դափնեկիր Է դարձել ամերիկացի մաթեմատիկոս Իան Ագոլը, որն ուսումնասիրում Է բազմությունները:         

Բացի երեքական միլիոն դոլար խոշորագույն մրցնակներից, Միլների հիմնադրամը հանձնում Է նաեւ երիտասարդ հետազոտողների համար նախատեսված ավելի փոքր New Horizons in Physics Prizes-ը եւ New Horizons in Mathematics Prizes-ը:  Ցուկերբերգն անցկացնում Է Breakthrough Junior Challenge-ը, որին մասնակցում են 13-ից մինչեւ 18 տարեկան երեխաներ: Մրցանակի գլխավոր նպատակը, ինչպես հայտարարել Է դրա հիմնադիրը, գիտական հետազոտությունների ժողովրդականացումն Է եւ գիտնականներին իսկական աստղերի կարգավիճակ տալը:
