ԱՄՆ-ի Կոնգրեսի Հելսինկյան հանձնաժողովի համանախագահ, ազդեցիկ սենատոր Բեն Կարդինը հայտարարել է, որ Ադրբեջանի նախագահ Իլհամ Ալիեւը պետք է վերջ դնի քաղաքացիական հասարակության ակտիվիստների իրավունքների աղաղակող խախտումներին եւ բռնաճնշումներին:

Ինչպես հաղորդում է «Արմենպրես»-ը` վկայակոչելով «Թուրան» լրատվական գործակալությունը, ադրբեջանցի իրավապաշտպան Արիֆ Յունուսին առողջական խնդիրների պատճառով բանտից ազատելու եւ խափանման միջոցը տնային կալանքով փոխարինելու դատարանի որոշման հետ կապված Բեն Կարդինն ասել է. «Ես ողջունում եմ Ադրբեջանում անարդար ձերբակալությունից եւ դատապարտումից հետո Արիֆ Յունուսի ազատ արձակումը բանտից: Արիֆ եւ Լեյլա Յունուսների դեմ մեղադրանքները քաղաքական դրդապատճառներ ունեն եւ վկայում են Ադրբեջանում մարդու իրավունքների հետ կապված անթույլատրելի իրավիճակի մասին»:

Բեն Կարդինն ասել է, որ ինքը շարունակում է համառել Ադրբեջանում օրենքի գերակայության ամբողջական վերականգնման եւ Յունուս ամուսինների վրայից բոլոր մեղադրանքները հանելու մեջ:

«Դրա հետ միասին, Ադրբեջանի նախագահ Իլհամ Ալիեւը պետք է վերջ դնի քաղաքացիական հասարակության ակտիվիստների իրավունքների այդ աղաղակող խախտումներին», -ասվում է ամերիկացի սենատորի հայտարարության մեջ:
