Երեխայի ծնունդը միշտ ուղեկցվում է որոշ ապրումներով: Հղիությունն իսկական սթրես է երկու ծնողների համար էլ: Նրանք անհանգստանում են, որ իրենց երեխան ոչ մի խնդիր չունենա: Բայց այն, ինչ ստիպված եղան վերապրել Սթիվեն և Էրիկա Ջոնսերը, նույնիսկ թշնամուդ չես ցանկանա:

Երիտասարդ զույգը, Ֆլորիդայից, սպասում էր իր երկրորդ աղջկա ծննդին: Բայց հղիության 18-րդ շաբաթում նրանց տխուր լուր էր սպասվում: Հետազոտությունները ցույց տվեցին, որ աղջիկը Դաունի սինդրոմով կծնվի…

Բնականաբար այդ լուրը մեծ հարված եղավ Էրիկայի և Սթիվենի համար: Բայց այս լուրից դեռ ուշքի չեկած, նրանց ևս մեկ հարված էր սպասում: Հղիության 30-րդ շաբաթում բժիշկները երեխայի մոտ գլխի ուռուցք հայտնաբերեցին:

Չարորակ գոյացությունն այնքան մեծ չափսեր ուներ, որ բժիշկները փոքրիկին ոչ մի հույս չէին տալիս: Ուռուցքը շատ էր մեծացել, իսկ քիմիաթերապիան այդ տարիքում հակացուցված է:

Ըստ բժիշկների կանխատեսումների, երեխան, ծնվելուց հետո, պետք է ապրեր ընդամենը մի քանի օր, ոչ ավել: Ըստ էության, Սթիվենն ու Էրիկան պետք է պատրաստվեին ոչ թե իրենց երեխայի ծննդյանը, այլ թաղմանը…

Այնուամենայնիվ, ծնվելուց հետո աղջնակը, ում անվանեցին Էբիգայել, երկու ձեռքերով կառչեց կյանքից: Ի զարմանս բժիշկների, ուռուցքը փոքրանում էր: Հենց ուռուցքը հասավ այնպիսի չափերի, որ հնարավոր էր արդեն հեռացնել, անմիջապես վիրահատեցին:

Այժմ առողջ փոքրիկին ոչինչ չի սպառնում: Նա լավանում է և ուրախացնում է իր ծնողներին:
