Նույնիսկ, չեզրափակելով Հավայան կղզիներում անցկացրած իր արձակուրդը, Բարաք Օբաման նշել է, որ պատրաստվում է գործողություններ ձեռնարկել երկրում զենքի վաճառքի օրենքի խստացման վերաբերյալ:

Կալիֆորնիայի Սան Բերնարդինո քաղաքում և Օրեգոնի քոլեջներից մեկում ահաբեկիչների կողմից իրականացված սպանություններից ամիսներ առաջ Սպիտակ տանը աշխատանքներ էին տարվում զինված հարձակումների թիվը նվազեցնելու նպատակով՝ նախագահի կողմից ձեռնարկվելիք գործողությունների շուրջ: Բարաք Օբաման բազմիցս նշել է երկրում զենքի վաճառքի օրենքի խստացման կարիքի մասին: Նա ասում է,- «Զինված հարձակումների պատճառով տասյնակ հազարավոր համաքաղաքացիներ ենք կորցրել: Ամեն կոտորածից հետո մեզ ասում են, որ զինամթերք վաճառելուց առաջ անցկացվող հետաքննության գործընթացի ողջախոհ բարեփոխումները դժվար թե որևէ բան փոխեն: Սակայն, ին՞չ կլիներ, եթե Կոնգրեսը օրենք ընդուներ, որի շնորհիվ մենք կկարողանայինք կանխել գոնե մեկ զինված հարձակում»: Գլխավոր դատախազի հետ հանդիպումից հետո, ակնկալվում է, որ Օբաման կարգադրություններ կանի զենքի վաճառքի ժամանակ կատարվող հետաքննությունների խստացման շուրջ: Այս քայլը վշտացրել է Հանրապետական կուսակցության ներկայացուցիչներին, հատկապես Դոնալդ Թրամփին, ում խոսքերով, եթե Սան Բերնարդինոյի կամ Ֆրանսիայի բնակիչները զինված լինեին, ապա նրանք կկարողանային պաշտպանել իրենց: Սակայն Դեմոկրատական կուսակցության ներկայացուցիչները աջակցում են զենք ձեռք բերելու օրենքի խստացման շուրջ տարվող Բարաք Օբամայի գործողությունները: Սենատոր Բերնի Սանդերսի խոսքերով, ամերիկացիները վերջին տարիների ընթացքում բավականին զարհուրելի սպանությունների ականատես են դարձել: Նա ասում է,- «Մենք պետք է սահմանափակենք զենքի վաճառքը, որպեսզի օրինազանցներն ու հոգեկան խնդիրներ ունեցող քաղաքացիները չկարողանան զինամթերք գնել»: Ակնկալվում է, որ զենքի վաճառքի օրենքը խստացնելու վերաբերյալ Բարաք Օբամայի կարգադրությունները կհանգեցնեն զանազան դատավարությունների: Ինչը այժմ տեղի է ունենում ներգաղթի վերաբերյալ նախագահի կարգադրությունների շուրջ:
