Թայվանի Թայնան վարչական շրջանում հզոր երկրաշարժի զոհերի թիվը հասել է 23-ի, որոնցից 6-ը երեխաներ են։ Եւս մոտ 120 մարդ գտնվում է փլուզված 17-հարկանի շենքի փլատակներում։

Փրկարար-որոնողական գործողությանը մասնակցում է ավելի քան 600 մարդ, գործի է դրվել 150 միավոր տեխնիկա։ ՏԱՍՍ-ի փոխանցմամբ, ընդհանուր առմամբ շենքն ունեցել է 96 բնակարան, որտեղ ապրում էր 256 մարդ։

Ստորերկրյա ցնցումների հետեւանքով շենքը երկու կես է եղել, վերին մասը պոկվել-ընկել է։ Իշխանությունները ենթադրում են, որ շենքը կառուցվել է անորակ շինանյութերով եւ շինարարական նորմերի խախտումներով։ Այդ առթիվ համապատասխան հետաքննություն է իրականացվելու։

6,4 մագնիտուդով երկրաշարժը տեղի է ունեցել փետրվարի 6-ի երեկոյան։ Ականատեսների խոսքով, երկրաշարժը տեւել է մինչեւ 44 վայրկյան։ Ստորերկրյա ցնցումներն զգացել են նաեւ Գոասյուն քաղաքում, Պինդուն եւ Ցզյայի բնակավայրերում։
