Մայնմարում խորհրդարանը երկրի նոր նախագահ կընտրի մարտի 17-ին։ Այս մասին հայտնել է խորհրդարանի վերին պալատի  նախագահ Մանն Վին Քհայգ Տհանան։  Թեկնածուների անունները դեռեւս հրապարակված չեն։

Ընթացակարգի համաձայն՝ խորհրդարանի վերին եւ ստորին պալատները ներկայացնում են նախագահի մեկական թեկնածուի։ Եւս մեկ թեկնածուի առաջադրում են երկրի Զինված ուժերը։ Հաղթողը որոշվում է քվեարկության միջոցով։ Պարտվող երկու թեկնածուները դառնում են փոխնախագահներ, փոխանցում է ՏԱՍՍ-ը։

Ընդ որում անհայտ են անգամ Մյանմարի նախագահի պաշտոնին հավակնող պոտենցիալ թեկնածուների անունները։

Նշենք, որ  նորընտիր խորհրդարանն իր աշխատանքը սկսել է փետրվարին։ Սակայն մեծամասնություն կազմող Ժողովրդավարության ազգային լիգայի առաջնորդ, խաղաղության Նոբելյան մրցանակի դափնեկիր Աուն Սան Սու Չժին ֆորմալ առումով չի  կարող դառնալ նախագահ։ Այդ պաշտոնին չեն կարող հավակնել նաեւ մարդիկ, որոնք այլ պետությունների քաղաքացի հանդիսացող ազգականներ ունեն։ Աուն Սան Սու Չժին բրիտանացի գիտնականների այրի է, իսկ նրա 2 որդիները ՄԵծ Բրիտանիայի քաղաքացիներ են։
