Charlize Theron Says Beautiful People Have A Tough Time In Hollywood, No Really, They Do
LifestyleCharlize Theron covers the new issue of British GQ and she's looking all sorts of stunning, it should be noted. And that's the problem! Well, a problem at least. You see, "how many roles are out there for the gorgeous gown-wearing eight-foot model?" she asks the magazine — and is that really a serious question, because if so, the answer is A LOT.
Explaining how beauty is apparently often seen as a bad thing in the acting business, Charlize continues that "jobs with real gravitas go to people that are physically right for them," and that "when meaty roles come through, I've been in the room and pretty people get turned away first."So messed up is Hollywood, it seems, that it won't be long before the A-List are undergoing cosmetic surgery procedures to make them look less perfect!
In slightly more valid arguments, Charlize also calls out the double standards entrenched in Hollywood (and society at large) when it comes to aging. On that status quo, "women wilt and men age like fine wine," Charlize argues,"and, for a long time, women accepted it." "It feels there's this unrealistic standard of what a woman is supposed to look like when she's over 40," she says, which must be particularly complicated if it's one of those "meaty roles" again — how do you manage to look ageless and aged simultaneously?!
