US: Armenia and Azerbaijan leaders need to come back to Minsk process
International newsThe United States does welcome both sides’ confirmation of ceasefire in Karabakh, State Department official said on Tuesday.
Washington is actively engaged with both sides to urge them to strictly adhere to ceasefire, deputy spokesman Mark Toney said.
He recalled that the Minsk Group has gathered in Vienna today to discuss situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, and the co-chairs said they would travel to the region.
“Both leaders need to come back to Minsk process,” he emphasized.
Asked whether Secretary Kerry urged Minister Lavrov to use Russia’s influence on the parties, Toner said that in any kind of situation like this “we would ask any government to use whatever influence it may have on other government”, but he is not sure whether Secretary Kerry raised this point with Lavrov.
