The Latest "Skinny Enough" Challenge Is as Wasteful as It Is Shame-y
LifestyleDays after the "skinny enough" iPhone6 challenge prompted Chinese women to measure the size of their knees, Mashable finds they are now wrapping 100 yuan bills around their wrists for the same reason — to determine if they are "sufficiently skinny." They are sharing their results on Weibo.
The bill (which is the equivalent of about $15) measures about six-by-three inches. The goal is to not have any gaps showing — if there are none, the woman is "skinny enough." Some women are using even smaller bills to complete the challenge.
There are hundreds of contributions to the #WristChallenge so far, but what might be most upsetting of all is that women are commenting on each other's videos that they are jealous of one another's wrists. Many are bragging about their results: This video is captioned "OK, so easy :)."
There are so many other things we could be doing with our brains instead of body-shaming ourselves and so many other things we could do with our money instead of using it as a tape measurer. When will it end?
