Russia representative to OSCE: Peacekeepers could be deployed to Karabakh
PoliticsThe decision to deploy peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh can be taken only after a political settlement of the conflict.
Alexander Lukashevich, Russia’s permanent representative to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), stated the aforesaid, according to RIA Novosti news agency of Russia.
“The parameters for the peacekeepers’ activities toward maintaining peace in the region have long been designed in brief, [and] which, naturally, is possible only after ensuring a political settlement,” Lukashevich said during a Moscow-Vienna videoconference.
In his words, Vienna-based High Level Planning Group functions, where military analysts develop the parameters for a possible future peace-building action.
“So far they are just notes made by military experts on the map, and about what a peacekeeping operation configuration would be like,” Russia’s permanent representative to the OSCE said. “[But] if it comes to this, it certainly will be a historic attempt for the OSCE itself, which has never done a peacekeeping operation.”
