 Էկվադորում տեղի ունեցած ուժգին երկրաշարժից տուժել են 250 հազար երեխաներ, որոնց կեսը չի կարողանում ուսումնական պարապմունքների հաճախել դպրոցական շենքերի վնասվելու պատճառով: Այդ մասին, ինչպես տեղեկացնում է «Արմենպրես»-ը, հայտնել է ՄԱԿ-ի Մանկական հիմնադրամը (ՅՈՒՆԻՍԵՖ):

«Ավելի քան 280 դպրոցներ են վնասվել ապրիլի 16-ին Էկվադորում տեղի ունեցած երկրաշարժից, ինչի հետեւանքով 120 հազար երեխաներ զրկված են սովորելու հնարավորությունից»,- ասված է ՅՈՒՆԻՍԵՖ-ի հաղորդագրության մեջ:

Հիմնադրամում հայտնել են, որ երեք ամսվա ընթացքում իրենց 23 մլն դոլար կպահանջվի Էկվադորի բնակչությանն օգնություն ցուցաբերելու, այդ թվում՝ նրանց խմելաջուր մատակարարելու, կոյուղու աշխատանքը վերականգնելու, երեխաների կրթությունն ու պաշտպանությունն ապահովելու, ինչպես անեւ առողջապահության եւ սննդի ոլորտի ծրագրերը ֆինանսավորելու համար:

Ավելի վաղ ՄԱԿ-ի գլխավոր քարտուղարի՝ հումանիտար հարցերով տեղակալ Սթիվեն Օ՛Բրայենը խնդրել է միջազգային դոնորներին 73 մլն դոլար տրամադրել Էկվադորին օգնություն ցուցաբերելու համար:

7,8 մագնիտուդով երկրաշարժը տեղի է ունեցել Մանաբիի հյուսիս-արեւմտյան նահանգի Պեդեռնալես քաղաքի շրջանում: Ըստ վերջին տվյալների՝ տարերքի հարվածի հետեւանքով զոհվել է 655 մարդ, 48 հոգի անհայտ կորած է համարվում, բուժօգնության է դիմել ավելի քան 17 հազար բնակիչ: Երկրին պատճառված նյութական վնասը գնահատվում է մի քանի միլիարդ դոլար, հաղորդել է ՏԱՍՍ-ը:
