ԱՄՆ-ի Իլինոիս նահանգում բնակվող Դեսթինի Շաֆերն ու նրա փեսացուն` Բրենդոն Թոմասը, երազում էին ճոխ հարսանիք կազմակերպել։ Սակայն երջանիկ կյանքի մասին երազանքներն ի չիք դարձան, երբ կնոջ մոտ անսպասելիորեն 4-րդ աստիճանի ստամոքսի քաղցկեղ ախտորոշվեց։ 

Ինչպես նշում է The Daily Mail-ը, հոսպիտալացումից հետո Դեսթինին, գիտակցելով, որ իրեն ապրելու քիչ ժամանակ է մնացել, բուժքույրերի հետ կիսվել է հարսանիքի վերաբերյալ չիրագործված երազանքով: Սակայն նա  չէր էլ կարող պատկերացնել, թե հիվանդանոցի աշխատողներն իր համար ինչ անակնկալ են մտածել: Դեսթինիին խնամող բուժքույրերը որոշել են ինքնուրույն կազմակերպել նրա ու Բրենդոնի հարսանիքը:

Ցանկանալով մոտալուտ մահվանից առաջ երջանկացնել 24-ամյա հիվանդին` ուռուցքաբանության բաժանմունքի ողջ անձնակազմն ընդամենը 5 օրում պլանավորել է Դեսթինիի ու նրա փեսացուի պսակադրության արարողությունը:

«Ճակատագրական ախտորոշումը ստանալուց հետո սա կյանքիս լավագույն օրն է։ Ես չեմ էլ կարող բառերով նկարագրել, թե ինչ եմ զգում: Շնորհակալ եմ բոլորին»,- ասել է Դեսթինին։
