Սարդարապատի հերոսամարտի հուշահամալիրի Հայոց ազգագրության եւ ազատագրական պայքարի պատմության ազգային թանգարանում ՀՀ անկախության 25-ամյակին ընդառաջ տեղի ունեցավ լուսանկարիչ, ֆոտոլրագրող Ռուբեն Մանգասարյանի լուսանկարների ցուցահանդեսի բացումը եւ «Անկախության ճանապարհին» խորագիրը կրող գրքի շնորհանդեսը, որտեղ ներկայացված են հայ ազգի պատմության մեջ 3 կարեւորագույն իրադարձությունների` Արցախյան շարժման, Գյումրու երկրաշարժի եւ պատերազմի տարիներին լուսանկարչի արված աշխատանքները: Լուսանկարիչը ֆիքսել է այդ տարիներին հայ ժողովրդի կյանքի բացառապես բոլոր դրվագները` թե ինչպես է հայը սգում եւ հաղթահարում երկրաշարժը, ինչպես է ապրում ռմբակոծությունների տակ, ինչպես է ժպիտով պայքարում թշնամու դեմ, ինչպես է ցույց տալիս իր միասնականության ուժը եւ ի վերջո թե ինչպես է գնում դեպի այդ անկախությունը:

Թանգարանի տնօրեն Կարեն Արիստակեսյանի խոսքով` վայրը հատուկ է ընտրված, քանի որ հենց այս հուշահամալիրում է ավելի հստակ արտահայտվում անկախության եւ պետականության արժեքը:

«Ռուբեն Մանգասարյանի աշխատանքներից լույս է ճառագում, լուսանկարները ներկայացնում են բացառիկ պատմագեղարվեստական արժեք: Այսպես լուսանկարիչը մեզ տեղափոխում է այն դժվարին տարիները, երբ մենք անկախության ճանապարհին մաքառում էինք այս անկախության համար: Ամեն հայ ամենից առաջ պետք է հասկանա, թե ինչ դժվար  ճանապարհ է անցել այդ սերունդը, որպեսզի կարողանա ամրապնդել այն բոլոր արժեքները, որոնք ստեղծվեցին այս անկախության տարիներին եւ դեռ ստեղծվելու են»,- ասաց թանգարանի տնօրենը:

Ռուբեն Մանգասարյանի պատանեկության ընկերը` ռեժիսոր Արզուման Հարությունյանը, կարոտով է հիշում թե՛ ընկերոջը, թե՛ համատեղ աշխատանքը պատերազմի ծանր տարիներին: Նա կանգնում է լուսանկարներից մեկի կողքին ու հիշում.

«Ստեփանակերտի քաղաքային զբոսայգու կարուսելն էր, որը փորձեցինք միասին աշխատեցնել, երեխաները կախվում էին կարուսելից ու աշխատեցնում: Ես տեսանյութեր էի անում,  Ռուբենը` ֆոտո: Շատ էինք սպասում, որ այդ օրը կգա, որ այն իրոք կաշխատի: Այդ ժամանակ կար ազգի ոգին բարձրացնելու խնդիր, հասկացնելու, որ  դու քո հողի վրա ես ու իրավունք  չունես քո հողերը հանձնելու, որովհետեւ ու՞մ թողնես այս կարուսելը, այս  հրաշքը: Ես ու Ռուբենը շատ երկար ճամփա ենք անցել. եթե չասեմ աշխարհի, ապա Հայաստանում եւ  հետխորհրդային տարածքում նա լավագույններից մեկն էր , քանի որ նման մակարդակի ֆոտոլրագրություն հայերը շատ քիչ են ունեցել:  Եթե նա մեզ չլքեր, միանշանակ համաշխարհային դեմքերի հետ ոտք կգցեր, որովհետեւ նայում ես իր գործերին ու զգում ես նրա` այդ խորաթափանցությունը տեսնելու  ու զգալու,  այդ պահը ֆիքսելու ու վերադարձելու ունակությունը»:
