Թուրքիայի նախագահ Ռեջեփ Թայիփ Էրդողանը խոստացել է Ստամբուլի Գեզի այգում վերականգնել պատմական զորանոցները, ծրագիր, որը 2013 թվականին երկրում զանգվածային ցույցեր առաջացրին, գրում է Hurriyet Daily News-ը:

«Թեմաներից մեկը, որի հարցում պետք է քաջ լինենք, Թաքսիմում Գեզի այգին է: Տեսեք, ես ևս մեկ անգամ ասում եմ: Մենք այդտեղ կկառուցենք այդ պատմական շենքը»,- ասել է Էրդողանը հունիսի 18-ին՝ խոսելով Ստամբուլում միջոցառման ժամանակ:

Թուրքիայի նախագահը նաև նշել է, որ նախագիծը կարող է ներառել մի անկյուն, որտեղ կներկայացվի գերմանական, ֆրանսիական կամ ամերիկյան պատմությունը՝ ասելու աշխարհին, թե ինչեր են նրանք արել անցյալում՝ ակնարկելով Գերմանիայի խորհրդարանի կողմից Հայոց ցեղասպանության մասին բանաձևի ընդունումը:

Գեզիի ցույցերը սկսվեցին որպես շրջակա միջավայրի պաշտպանությամբ զբաղվող ակտիվիստների փոքր խմբի կողմից Ստամբուլի կենտրոնում մնացած քիչ կանաչ տարածներից մեկում ՝ Գեզիի այգում կառուցապատում սկսելու դեմ նստացույց: Այնուամենայնիվ, այն արագ տարածվեց ողջ Թուրքիայով, երբ միլիոնավոր քաղաքացիներ դուրս եկան փողոց զանգվածային ցույցերով, որոնք ցնցեցին Թուրքիան 2013 թվականի ամռանը: Այն այնուհետև վերածվեց իշխող «Արդարություն և զարգացում» կուսակցության դեմ բողոքի: Ցույցերի ընթացքում սպանվեց ութ ցուցարար, մեկ ոստիկան:
