 «Եվրո 2016-ում», 1/8 եզրափակիչների առաջին  խաղային օրվա կենտրոնական խաղը Խորվաթիա-Պորտուգալիա  հանդիպումն էր: Մրցավեճը ձգվել է մինչև լրացուցիչ ժամանակ, որտեղ հաջողությունը ուղեկցել է Պորտուգալիային: Խաղն ավարտվեց` 1-0 հաշվով, հօգուտ Պորտուգ ալիայի:

Խորվաթիայի և Պորտուգալիայի հավաքականների միջև  կայացած հանդիպման առաջին խաղակեսը անցավ անչափ լարված պայքարում: Դիտարժանության առումով խաղադաշտում ոչ մի առանձնահատուկ խաղ ֆուտբոլասերները չտեսան: Պայքարի առումով`թիմերը գերազանցեցին սպասելիքները: Խաղադաշտում ամեն սանտիմետր ուներ իր հսկողը: Առաջին խաղակեսում հավաքակնները  կարողացան կազմակերպել մեկական քիչ թե շատ վտանգավոր գրոհ: Առաջին հնարավորությունը ունեցավ Պորտուգալիայի ընտրանին: Պեպեն, տուգանային հարապարակում ստանալով փոխանցումը, գլխի հարվածով փորձեց գրավել խորվաթներÕ « դարպասը:  Գնդակը բարձր ընթացավ: Խորվաթիայի հավաքականը պատասխանեց  30-րդ րոպեին: Վտանգավոր դիրքում հայտնված Իվան Պերիշիչը շեղ հարվածեց: 1-ին կեսում այլ վտանգավոր գրոհ թիմերը ձեռնարկել չկարողացան, և 0-0 հաշվով գնացին հանդերձարան:

2-րդ խաղակեսը սկսվեց Խորվաթիայի հավաքականի գրոհների նշանաբանով: Անտե Չաչիչի ֆուտբալինստերը առաջին վտանգավոր գրոհը կազմակերպեցին 52-րդ րոպեին: Մարսելո Բրոզովիչին մի քանի սանտիմետր չբավականեցրեց գնդակը Ռուի Պատրիսիու դարպասը ուղարկելու համար: Անցավ ևս 10 րոպե և Խորվաթիան ստացավ տուգանային հարվածի իրավունք: Գնդակը խորվաթ ֆուտբոլիստը հասցեագրեց տուգանային հրապարակ, որտեղ Դոմագոյ Վիդայի գլխի հարվածը աննշան շեղ ընթացավ: Պորտուգալիան փրկվեց վերահաս գոլից: Խաղակեսը մոտեցավ իր ավարտին, իսկ թիմերը այդպես էլ չգտան միմյանց դարպասի բանալիներÕ ¨: Անչափ լարված հանդիպման հիմնական ժամանակն ավարտվեց գոլազուրկ հաշտությամբ, և թիմերը  հանդիպումը տեղափողեցին լրացուցիչ ժամանակ: Ավելացրած 30 րոպեները պետք է որոշեին հանդիպման հետագա ճակատագիրը:

Լրացուցիչ խաղակեսերից առաջինում խաղադաշտում էական փոփոխություններ այդպես էլ տեղի չունեցան: Թիմերը նույնիսկ միմյանց դարպասներին հարվածներ չկարողացան կատարել: 2-րդ կեսում Դոմագոյ Վիդան ստացավ 2-րդ հնարավորությունը Պորտուգալիայի դարպասը գրավելու ու կրկին վրիպեց նպաստավոր դիրքից: Խորվաթիան շարունեց գրոհել և 116-րդ րոպեին Պորտուգալիային փրկեց  դարպասաձողը: Խորվաթիան չգրավեց դարապասը, իսկ Պորտուգալիան խաղի 117-րդ րոպեին գրավեց «շախմատայինների» դարպասը: Ռոնալդուի հարվածից հետո Սուբաշիչը ետ մղեց գնդակը, սակայն վրա հասած Ռիկարդու Մուարեժման գրավեց դարպասը: Պորտուգալիան առաջին վտանգավոր գրոհով հասավ իր նպատակին: Հանդիպումը այդպես էլ ավարտվեց, և Պորտուգալիան դուրս եկավ քառորդ եզրափակիչ: «Եվրոպացի բրազիլացիներ»-ի հավաքականը կմրցի Լեհաստանի ընտրանու հետ:
