Ամուսինն իր կնոջ համար նամակ էր թողել սեղանին հետևյալ բովանդակությամբ.

«Թանկագինս, դու պետք է ինձ հասկանաս, դու արդեն 44 տարեկան ես, իսկ դա կնոջ համար արդեն լուրջ տարիք է, և դու ո՛չ ֆիզիկապես, ո՛չ բարոյապես չես կարողանում բավարարել իմ բոլոր պահանջները…

Եվ այդ պատճառով այս երեկոն ես անց կկացնեմ իմ 18-ամյա քարտուղարուհու ընկերակցությամբ և տանը կլինեմ մոտավորապես կես գիշերին կամ նույնիսկ մի քիչ ավելի ուշ»:

Երբ նա վերադարձավ տուն, գտավ պատասխան նամակ.

«Սիրելի և թանկագին ամուսին, ես իհարկե չեմ մոռացել, որ ես 44 տարեկան եմ, բայց դու էլ երիտասարդ չես, և համապատասխանաբար, դու նույնպես արդեն 44 տարեկան ես, և ցավոք սրտի դու նույնպես չես կարողանում բավարարել իմ պահանջները…

Եվ քանի որ ես դասավանդում եմ քոլեջում, այս գիշերը ես կանցկացնեմ իմ ուսանողի հետ, ով նույն տարիքի է, ինչ քո քարտուղարուհին:
