Նարնջենի քաղցրի սպիտակ ծաղիկներն Արևելքում համարվել են` սիրո, իսկ Հունաստանում` Դիանա աստվածուհու խորհրդանիշը։ Իսլամում նարնջենու ծաղիկը համարվել է պտղաբերության խորհրդանիշ, այն հյուսել են հարսնացուների մազերին և զարդարել հագուստը։

200 մլ նարնջի հյութը պարունակում է մարդու օրգանիզմին անհրաժեշտ մոլիբդենի 1-օրյա պահանջարկի 22,6 տոկոսը, սելենի և պղնձի` 16-ական %-ը, կալիումի` 15,2, մագնիումի` 5,8 երկաթի` 5, ֆոսֆորի` 4,1, քրոմի` 4, մարգանեցի` 3,8, կալցիումի` 2,1, ցինկի` 1,7 յոդի` 1,3, վիտամիններ C` 111, ֆոլիաթթու`11, B6` 10%, B1` 9%, K` 6,3%, պանտոտենաթթու և բիոտին` 5,6-ական %, B2` 4,6 %, E` 4,3%, նիացին` 3,5 %, բետա-կարոտին-1,8%։

Պտղամսում կան 6-8 տոկոս (քաղցր տեսակներում` 15 տոկոս) շաքարներ, 1-2 տոկոս կիտրոնաթթու, գլիկոզիդ նարինգին, ֆիտոնցիդներ, եթերային յուղեր, ներկանյութեր, ինոզիտ և ռուտին։

Պտղակեղևի սպիտակ շերտում կան շաքարներ, փոքր քանակությամբ թթուներ, եթերային յուղ, զգալի քանակությամբ պեկտինային միացություններ։
Կարևոր է իմանալ, որ պահպանման ժամկետն ավելացնելու նպատակով պտղի արտաքին (դեղնանարնջագույն, իսկ երբեմն` կարմիր, շերտը մշակում են մոմով և կոնսերվանտներով. այդ շերտն անհրաժեշտ է հեռացնել։

Նարնջի կեղևն ունի առնվազն 3 օգտակար հատկություններ. Կարգավորում է խոլեստերինի մակարդակն օրգանիզմում և հեռացնում է վնասակար նյութերը,

  • Ճնշում է աղիքային որդերի և պաթոգեն (ոչ օգտակար) միկրոօրգանիզմների կենսունակությունը,
  • Կեղևում պարունակվող շաքարները (արտաքին շերտի տակ) խթանում են ուղեղի աշխատանքը և ամրացնում են հիշողությունը։
  • Կեղևում պարունակվող մեծաքանակ ֆիտոնցիդները մաքրում են օդը մանրէներից։

  • Նարնջի հյութը կարգավորում է ճարպերի փոխանակությունը, նվազեցնում է ցածր խտություն ունեցող ճարպասպիտակուցների (վատ խոլեստերինի) մակարդակն արյան մեջ, կարգավորում է մարսողությունը, ունի նիհարեցնող հատկություն։ Ըստ իտալացի գիտնականների` կարմիր պտղամիս ունցող նարինջը կանխարգելում է գիրությունը և ուռուցքների առաջացման հավանականությունը։ Հյութը քամելուց առաջ նարինջը 10-15 րոպե պահեք գոլ ջրի մեջ։

    Նարնջից ստացվում է եթերային յուղ, որը վաճառվում է դեղատներում։ Օգտագործվում է արոմաթերապիայում` հորմոնալ խանգարումների, հիպերտոնիայի, դեպրեսիայի, լեղաքարային հիվանդության, փորկապության, դիսբակտերիոզի, դաշտանադադարի, սրտի աշխատանքի խանգարումների դեպքում։ Նարնջի եթերային յուղը վերականգնում է մաշկի առաձգականությունը, պաշտպանում է անքնությունից, հանգստացնում է նյարդային համակարգը։
