Գերմանիայի սոցիալ-դեմոկրատական կուսակցության (ԳՍԴԿ) նախագահ Զիգմար Գաբրիելը մտադիր Է ԳԴՀ-ի կանցլերի թեկնածու դառնալ ԳՍԴԿ-ից եւ դրանով իսկ մարտահրավեր նետել Անգելա Մերկելին, որն ավելի վաղ հայտարարել Էր չորրորդ ժամկետի համար իր թեկնածությունն առաջադրելու պատրաստակամության մասին:
 
Այդ մասին հունվարի 10-ին հայտնել Է Bild թերթը:
 
Հրատարակությունը նշել Է, որ պաշտոնապես թեկնածության մասին հայտարարվելու Է սոցիալ-դեմոկրատների՝ հունվարի 29-ին կայանալիք համագումարում: Թերթը գրում Է, որ Գաբրիելին դժվարությամբ Է տրվել այդ որոշումը. հարցումների համաձայն, կուսակցության ներսում նա ավելի քիչ ժողովրդականություն Է վայելում, քան, օրինակ, Եվրախորհրդարանի ղեկավար Մարտին Շուլցը: Բացի այդ, փետրվարին փոխկանցլերն ու նրա կինը սպասում են երկրորդ երեխային:
