 Գամբիայի Ազգային ժողովը հունվարի 18-ին երկարացրել Է ընտրությունները տանուլ տված նախագահ Յայյա Ջամեի լիազորությունները, որն իշխանությունը պետք Է պետության ընտրված ղեկավար Ադամ Բարոուին փոխանցեր հունվարի 19-ին: Այդ մասին, ինչպես տեղեկացնում Է «Արմենպրես»-ը, հայտնել Է Reuters գործակալությունը: 
Գամբիայում քաղաքական ճգնաժամը ծայր Էր առել դեկտեմբերի վերջին այն բանից հետո, երբ Յայյա Ջամեն հայտարարեց, որ չի ճանաչում ընտրությունների արդյունքները եւ հրաժարվեց հեռանալ: Իր լիազորությունների ժամկետի լրանալուց մեկ օր առաջ Ջամեն երկրում արտակարգ դրության ռեժիմ Է հայտարարել: 
«Գամբիայի Ազգային ժողովի կողմից ընդունված բանաձեւը նախագահ Ջամեի լիազորությունները երկարացնում Է երեք ամսով»,-ասված Է գործակալության հաղորդագրության մեջ: Որոշումը հայտարարվել Է ազգային հեռուստատեսությամբ: 
Աֆրիկյան միության (ԱՄ) երկրների խորհուրդը հունվարի 13-ին հայտարարել Էր, որ կազմակերպությունը հունվարի 19-ից կդադարի ընտրությունները տանուլ տված Ջամեին համարել որպես Գամբիայի օրինական ղեկավար: Ավելի վաղ տեղեկացվել Էր, որ Նիգերիան եւ Արեւմտյան Աֆրիկայի այլ երկրներ միավորված խմբավորում են պատրաստում, որը կարող Է Գամբիա մտնել, եթե Ջամեն չհեռանա պաշտոնից, հաղորդել Է ՌԻԱ Նովոստին:
