Միացյալ Նահանգների նորանշանակ պետքարտուղար Ռեքս Թիլերսոնը հայտարարել է, որ ԱՄՆ շահերից է բխում Հայաստանի ու Թուրքիայի միջև հաշտ ու կայուն հարաբերությունների հաստատումը:

Այս մասին Թիլերսոնն ասել է պետքարտուղարի պաշտոնում իր թեկնածության քննարկման ժամանակ ԱՄՆ սենատի արտաքին հարաբերությունների   հանձնաժողովում` ի պատասխան Կալիֆորնիայից դեմոկրատ սենատոր Ռոբերտ Մենենդեսի հարցին:

«1915-ի ողբերգական կոտորածները շարունակում են ցավալի հարց մնալ Հայաստանի և Թուրքիայի միջև: ԱՄՆ շահերից է բխում երկու երկրի միջև հաշտ ու կայուն հարաբերությունների հաստատումը: Պետքարտուղարի պաշտոնում հաստատվելու դեպքում ես կաջակցեմ պատմական իրադարձությունների լիակատար ուսումնասիրությանը և Հայաստանի ու Թուրքիայի միջև բաց երկխոսությանը` հանուն տարածաշրջանային կայունության»,- ասել է Թիլերսոնը:

Անդրադառնալով Թուրքիայում հիմնարար ազատությունների խախտումներին` պետքարտուղարը հստակեցրել է, որ մտահոգված է թուրքական կառավարության գ ործողությունների առնչությամբ:

«Կրոնական ազատությունն ամերիկյան հիմնարար սկզբունք է և միջազգային խաղաղության ու կայունության ոլորտում կարևոր բաղադրիչ: Պետքարտուղարի պաշտոնում կաշխատեմ Թուրքիայի հետ` երաշխավորելու կրոնական փոքրամասնությունների անվտանգությունը և նպաստելու նրանց մշակութային ժառանգության նկատմամբ հարգանքին»,- ասել է նա:

ՄԱԿ-ում ԱՄՆ նորանշանակ ներկայացուցիչ Նիքի Հեյլին ևս Սենատում լսումների ժամանակ, անդրադառնալով հարցին, թե կնպաստի՞ նրան, որ Միացյալ Նահանգները իրենց անունով կոչեն Հայոց ցեղասպանությունը, ասել է. «Ես երբեք չեմ վարանի մատնանշել այն երկրները, որոնց գործողությունները հակասում են ԱՄՆ արժեքներին և խախտում են մարդու իրավունքներն ու միջազգային նորմերը»:
