Կիմ Չեն Նամը 2012 թվականին նամակ Է ուղարկել իր կրտսեր եղբորը՝ ԿԺԴՀ-ի առաջնորդ Կիմ Չեն Ընին, որում խնդրել Է խնայել իր եւ իր ընտանիքի անդամների կյանքը: Այդ մասին, ինչպես տեղեկացնում Է «Արմենպրես»-ը, հայտնել Է Կորեայի Հանրապետության Ազգային հետախուզական ծառայության տնօրեն Լի Բյոն Հոն խորհրդարանի պատգամավորների համար անցկացված բրիֆինգի ընթացքում: 
«Կիմ Չեն Նամը Հյուսիսային Կորեայում իշխանության եկած իր եղբորը հավաստիացնում Էր, որ ո՛չ ինքը, ո՛չ իր երեխաները իշխանության չեն հավակնում եւ միայն հանգիստ կյանք են ցանկանում ԿԺԴՀ-ի սահմաններից դուրս»,- նրա խոսքը լրագրողներին փոխանցել Է հանդիպման մասնակիցներից մեկը: 
 
Նա նաեւ հայտնել Է, որ Կիմ Չեն Նամի նախկին կինը ներկայում որդու հետ ապրում Է Պեկինում, իսկ երկրորդ կինը՝ երկու երեխաներով, գտնվում Է Մակաոյում: Նրանց բոլորին թիկնապահներ են տրամադրված Չինաստանի իշխանությունների կողմից: Հետախուզության տնօրենը պատմել Է, որ Կիմ Չեն Նամը երբեք չի դիմել Հարավային Կորեային իրեն ապաստան տրամադրելու խնդրանքով եւ անտեսում Էր ընկերների կողմից նման խորհուրդները: 
 
Լի Բյոն Հոն նաեւ հավաստել Էր, որ ԿԺԴՀ-ի ղեկավարի ավագ եղբայրը թունավորվել Է, սակայն պատահածի բոլոր հանգամանքներն առայժմ հայտնի չեն: Նա նշել Է, որ ծառայությունը Մալայզիայում տեղի ունեցած միջադեպի մասին իմացել Է դրա տեղի ունենալուց չորս ժամ անց: 
 
Հետախուզությունը գտնում Է, որ ԿԺԴՀ-ի հատուկ ծառայությունները Կիմ Չեն Նամին հետապնդում Էին վերջին հինգ տարվա ընթացքում, երբ իշխանության եկավ նրա եղբայրը՝ Կիմ Չեն Ընը, սակայն նրանց պլաններին խանգարում Էր Չինաստանի իշխանությունների կողմից տրամադրված պահակախումբը: Մարդասպանների համար հարմար վիճակ Է ստեղծվել Մալայզիայի օդանավակայանում: 
 
Կիմ Չեն Նամը ԿԺԴՀ-ի նախկին ղեկավար Կիմ Չեն Իրի ավագ որդին Է, որը ծնվել Է հյուսիսկորեացի հայտնի դերասանուհի Սոն Հե Ռիմի հետ արտամուսնական կապից: Կիմ Չեն Նամը մի ժամանակ համարվում Էր Հյուսիսային Կորեայի ղեկավարի պաշտոնում հոր առավել հավանական հաջորդը, սակայն  շնորհազրկման Է ենթարկվել  2001 թվականին կեղծ անձնագրով Ճապոնիա մեկնելու փորձից հետո եւ այդ ժամանակվանից ապրում Էր արտասահմանում, մասնավորապես, Չինաստանի Մակաո միջատարածքում, հաղորդել Է ՏԱՍՍ-ը:
