Ժան-Պոլ Սարտրի «Սրտխառնոց» վեպը անկասկած հեղինակի ամենահայտնի վիպական ստեղծագործությունն է, որը աշխարհի կարևոր վեպերի ցանկերից գրեթե անպակաս է: Պատմվածքի հնարված կերպարը՝ պատմաբան Անտուան Ռոկանտենը, պետք է գիտական ուսումնասիրություն գրի մեկի մասին, որն իր հերթին հնարված է: Այս վիճակը կարելի է անվանել «բալզակյան թակարդ», երբ հորինվածքը մարմնավորվում է պատմական ճշգրտությամբ՝ դրանով իսկ կասկածի տակ դնելով բուն պատմական ճշմարտությունն ընդհանրապես… Այս ամենն ասես ապացուցում է այն ասույթը, որն ասում է թե պատմությունը սուտ գիտություն է:

Հեղինակի վարպետությունը հորինվածը ներկայացնել գերիրական փաստերով, միևնույն է թույլ չի տալիս նրան ընդունել իրեն շնորհված Նոբելյան մրցանակը, քանզի վերջինս չէր ցանկանում պարտական լինել որևէ սոցիալական ինստիտուտի և դրանով վտանգել իր անկախությունը: Այնումանեայնիվ այսօր դժվար գտնվի մի աղբյուր, որտեղ Սարտրը Նոբելյան մրցանակակիր չներկայացվի, և այդ են վկայում Նոբելյան մատենաշարով հրատարակությունները, որոնք անջնջելի ապացույցներ են :

Բայց ժամանակը չափազանց մեծ է, այն չես լցնի։

Ես երջանիկ եմ, այնքան մաքուր է այս ցուրտը, այս գիշերն այնքան մաքուր է: Արդյո՞ք ես ինքս էլ մի սառը օդի ալիք չեմ: Չունենալ ո՛չ արյուն, ո՛չ ավիշ, ո՛չ մարմին: Լինել ոչ այլ ինչ, քան սառնություն։

Այս ողբերգական միայնության մեջ միակ բանը, որ դեռ կարողանում եմ քաղել, մի քիչ դատարկ մաքրությունն է։

Հենց սա է ժամանակը, մերկ ժամանակը, այն դանդաղ է գոյանում, ստիպում է երկար սպասել իրեն ու երբ վերջապես գալիս է, սիրտդ սկսում է խառնել, որովհետև հասկանում ես, որ այն վաղուց այստեղ էր։

Հիշողություններս ասես սատանայի քսակում զրնգացող ոսկեդրամներ լինեն. երբ քսակը բացում ես, մեջը չոր տերևներից բացի ոչինչ չես տեսնում։

Բառերը խթանում են երևակայությունը, ուրիշ ոչինչ։
