Հայաստանի և Ռուսաստանի նախագահներ Սերժ Սարգսյանի և Վլադիմիր Պուտինի հանդիպումից առաջ և հետո հնչած հայտարարությունները վկայում են, որ հայ-ռուսական հարաբերությունները գտնվում են բավականին բարձր մակարդակի վրա։  Արմենպրեսի հետ զրույցում՝ նման դիտարկում արեց քաղաքագետ Հրանտ Մելիք-Շահնազարյանը։ 
«Խոսքը վերաբերում է տնտեսական, ռազմական համագործակցությանը և ընդհանրապես տարածաշրջանում քաղաքականություն ձևավորելու հիմնախնդիրներին։ Կարծում եմ երեկվա հանդիպումը այդ հարաբերությունների, մտերմության լավագույն ապացույցներից է»,- նշեց նա, և ընդգծեց, որ երկու երկրների ղեկավարների հայտարարությունները լավատեսական տրամադրությունների առիթ են տալիս։    
Նախագահների` ԼՂ հակամարտության կարգավորման շուրջ անդրադարձի վերաբերյալ քաղաքագետն համոզմունք հայտնեց, որ այդ հարցը չէր կարող շրջանցվել ՌԴ և ՀՀ նախագահների հանդիպման օրակարգից։ Նրա խոսքով` Հարավային Կովկասում սա հիմնական խնդիրն է։ 
«Այս հարցը վերաբերում է ոչ միայն Հայաստանին, Արցախին և Ադրբեջանին, այլ ընդհանրապես՝ տարածաշրջանային անվտանգությանը։  Ինչ-որ չափով սա ազդում է նաև հարակից տարածաշրջաններում ընթացող գործընթացների վրա։ Հարավային Կովկասում կայունությունը թույլ է տալիս Ռուսաստանին ավելի վստահ զգալ Մերձավոր Արևելքում իր գործողություններում և ավելի ապահով թիկունքով հանդես գալ այնտեղ»,- ասաց քաղաքագետ Մելիք-Շահնազարյանը։ 
Նրա կարծիքով՝ քննարկումները չեն վերաբերել լուծումներին, այլ այս պահին հանգիստ իրավիճակ և կայունության կանխատեսելիություն ապահովելու խնդիր կա։ 
«Ամենայն հավանականությամբ, հենց այս ուղղությամբ են ընթացել քննարկումները, որպեսզի սահմանում իրավիճակը հանգիստ լինի և այս պայթյունավտանգ դրությունը որևէ կերպ հաղթահարվի»,- նկատեց քաղաքագետը։ 
ՀՀ նախագահ Սերժ Սարգսյանը Ռուսաստանի Դաշնություն աշխատանքային այցի շրջանակներում օգոստոսի 23-ին Սոչիում հանդիպում է ունեցել ՌԴ նախագահ Վլադիմիր Պուտինի հետ։ Նախագահները հանդիպման ընթացքում անդրադարձել են մի շարք հարցերի, այդ թվում նաև՝ Լեռնային Ղարաբաղի հակամարտության կարգավորմանը։
