Էստոնիայի, Լատվիայի եւ Լիտվայի դեսպաններ Ալար Սթրեյմանը, Իմանթ Լիեգիսը եւ Դալյուս Չեկուոլիսը Փարիզում նամակով դիմել են ֆրանսիական Le Monde պարբերականին՝ խնդրելով այնտեղ հրապարակվող նյութերում իրենց երկրներին «նախկին խորհրդային հանրապետություններ» չանվանել, փոխանցում է «Ինտերֆաքս»-ը։

«Մենք շատ շնորհակալ կլինեինք, եթե ձեր հոդվածներում «նախկին խորհրդային հանրապետություն» եզրույթը չօգտագործեք, քանի որ նման կերպ նշված պատմական ու միջազգային մակարդակով ճանաչված փաստերն ըստ արժանվույն կարտացոլվեն»,-ասվում է պարբերականի ղեկավար Լյուք Բրոներին հղված նամակում։

Դեսպանները հայտարարել են, որ «1940-ին իրենց երկրները կամավոր կերպով Խորհրդային միության կազմում չեն ներառվել, այլ այնտեղ են հայտնվել ռազմական բռնակցման հետեւանքով»։

Դիվանագետները նշել են, որ ԽՍՀՄ-ի փլուզումից հետո այդ տարածաշրջանում նոր պետություններ չեն ձեւավորվել, բայց Բալթյան երկրները վերականգնել են իրենց անկախությունը։
