ՀՀ վարչապետ Կարեն Կարապետյանը հոկտեմբերի 5-ին ընդունել է Մասաչուսեթսի տեխնոլոգիական ինստիտուտի (MIT) ճարտարապետական և քաղաքային պլանավորման ֆակուլտետի դեկան Հաշիմ Սարկիսին և քաղաքային պլանավորման մասնագետ, պրոֆեսոր Բրենթ Ռայանին:

Ինչպես տեղեկացրին ՀՀ կառավարության տեղեկատվության և հասարակայնության հետ կապերի վարչությունից, հանդիպմանը քննարկվել են Գյումրիի զարգացման ուղղությամբ համագործակցության հեռանկարները: MIT-ի մասնագետները նշել են, որ «Թումո» ստեղծարար տեխնոլոգիաների կենտրոնի հրավերով ճանաչողական այցով ժամանել են Հայաստան՝ Գյումրիի հնարավորություններին  ծանոթանալու և քաղաքի զարգացումը խթանելուն ուղղված նորարարական մոտեցումներ մշակելու նպատակով։

Կարեն Կարապետյանը ներկայացրել է քաղաքի զարգացման իր տեսլականը՝ ընդգծելով, որ Գյումրին ունի Հայաստանի այցեքարտերից մեկը դառնալու համար անհրաժեշտ ներուժ, և նպատակային աշխատելու դեպքում կարելի է ցանկալի արդյունքի հասնել, փոխել քաղաքի տրամադրությունն ու մթնոլորտը: Վարչապետը ողջունել է MIT-ի ներկայացուցիչների այցը Հայաստան և առաջարկել համատեղ աշխատանքի հետագա քայլերը քննարկել Հայաստանի զարգացման հիմնադրամի ու Ռազմավարական նախաձեռնությունների կենտրոնի մասնագետների հետ՝ նշելով, որ կառավարությունը պատրաստ է երկարաժամկետ արդյունավետ համագործակցության:
