 Թուրքիայի նախագահ Ռեջեփ Թայիփ Էրդողանը, մեկնաբանելով Անկարայի եւ Վաշինգտոնի փոխհարաբերությունների ճգնաժամը, իր երկիրը համեմատել Է առյուծի հետ, որի ճիրանները պոկել-հանել են եւ ցանկանում են հնազանդեցնել:

«Բոլոր կողմերից ցանկանում են օղակի մեջ առնել Թուրքիան եւ հնազանդեցնել, ինպես առյուծին, որի ճիրանները պոկել-հանել են: Նրանք վարժվել են հին Թուրքիային եւ չեն ընդունում ուժեղ Թուրքիան: Թուրքիայի անկախությունը պաշտպանելու մեր վճռականությունը ինչ-որ մեկին խիստ անհանգստացնում Է»,-հայտարարել Է Էրդողանը՝ Անկարայում ելույթ ունենալով նահանգապետների առջեւ:

Նա Թուրքիայում ԱՄՆ-ի դեսպան Ջոն Բասսին մեղադրել Է այցագրային ճգնաժամ հրահրելու մեջ: «Այցագրերի հետ կապված ճգնաժամն ստեղծել Է ԱՄՆ-ի այստեղի դեսպանը: Անընդունելի Է, որ Ամերիկան իր համար ռազմավարական առումով այնքան կարեւոր երկրում, ինչպիսին Թուրքիան Է, նշանակել Է դեսպանի, որը պատասխանատու չԷ իր համար:

Նրանց ցանկացած գործողության մենք համարժեք պատասխան կտանք»,-հավելել Է Թուրքիայի նախագահը: ԱՄՆ-ի պետքարտուղար Ռեքս Թիլերսոնը հոկտեմբերի 11-ին Թուրքիայի արտաքին գործերի նախարար Մեւլյութ Չավուշօղլուին խորը անհանգստություն Է հայտնել Անկարայում ԱՄՆ-ի դեսպանության աշխատակիցների եւ ԱՄՆ-ի քաղաքացիների ձերբակալման կապակցությամբ: Թիլերսոնն ընդգծել Է այն բանի անհրաժեշտությունը, որ Թուրքիայի կառավարությունը նրանց ներկայացված մեղադրանքների ապացույցներ տրամադրի:

Թուրքիայի եւ ԱՄՆ-ի հարաբերություններում ճգնաժամ Է սկսվել անցած շաբաթ Ստամբուլում ԱՄՆ-ի հյուպատոսարանի աշխատակից Մեթին Թոփուզի ձերբակալումից հետո: Նա մեղադրվում Է «սահմանադրության խախտման» եւ «Թուրքիայի կառավարությունը տապալելու փորձի» մեջ: ԱՄՆ-ը հոկտեմբերի 8-ին կասեցրել Է ոչ միգրացիոն այցագրերի տրամադրումը Թուրքիայի տարածքում գործող բոլոր դիվանագիտական ներկայացուցչություններում, հաղորդել Է ՌԻԱ Նովոստին:
