 Մալթայում հազարավոր մարդիկ հարգանքի տուրք են մատուցել երկրի ամենահայտնի լրագրողի` Ադրբեջանի նախագահ Իլհամ Ալիևի ընտանիքի մասնակցությամբ Պանամայի օֆշորային սկանդալը բացահայտած Դաֆնա Կարուանա Գալիցիայի  հիշատակին, ով զոհվել է մեքենայի պայթյունի հետևանքով: Հոկտեմբերի 16-ի երեկոյան Սլիեմա քաղաքում կայացել է լրագրողի հոգեհանգստի արարողությունը, որի ընթացքում հազարավոր մարդիկ դուրս են եկել փողոց, հարգանքի տուրք մատուցել նրա հիշատակին: Մալթայում շատ մարդիկ նաև փոխում են «Ֆեյսբուք»-ի իրենց էջերի գլխավոր լուսանկարները և ի նշան Գալիցիայի հիշատակի տեղադրում են սև քառակուսիներով լուսանկար:

53-ամյա լրագրողը զոհվել է հոկտեմբերի 16-ին մեքենայի պայթյունի հետևանքով: Նրա մեքենան պայթյունի հետևանքով մի քանի մասերի է բաժանվել: Դեպքի վայր է ժամանել նաև նրա որդին և փորձել է բացել մեքենայի դռները, իսկ այդ ընթացքում երկու ոստիկան փորձել են կրակմարիչով հանգցնել մեքենայում բռնկված հրդեհը:

Եվրոպական հանձնաժողովի պաշտոնական ներկայացուցիչ Մարգարիտաս Սխինասը նշել է, որ լրագրողի մահը կարող է պատվիրված սպանություն լինել: Նա շեշտել է, որ Եվրահանձնաժողովը կոչ է անում մանրամասն հետաքննել դեպքը և խստորեն պատժել բոլոր մեղավորներին: Մալթայում հայտնի բոլոր քաղաքական գործիչները,  ինչպես նաև վարչապետ Մուսկատը դատապարտել են լրագրողի սպանությունը:

Դաֆնա Կարուանա Գալիցիան Մալթայի ամենահայտնի լրագրողն էր: Նա անգլերեն բլոգ է վարել, որում անդրադարձել է հիմնականում կոռուպցիայի վերաբերյալ թեմաների: Նրա որոշ հրապարակումների ընթերցումների թիվը գերազանցել է նույնիսկ Մալթայի 400 հազար բնակչության թիվը:

Գալիցիան հետաքննություն էր իրականացրել և պարզել, որ Մալթայի վարչապետ Ջոզեֆ Մուսկատը Պանամայում  օֆշորային ընկերություններ ունի: 2017թ. նա հայտնել էր, որ Մալթայի վարչապետի կնոջը պատկանող օֆշորային ընկերությունը գումարներ է ստացել մի ընկերությունից, որը կապ ունի Ադրբեջանի նախագահ Իլհամ Ալիևի աղջկա հետ: Այդ հրապարակումից հետո երկրում նշանակվեցին արտահերթ ընտրություններ, որոնց արդյունքում կրկին հաղթանակ տարավ Ջոզեֆ Մուսկատը:
