 Հայաստանում 2016-2017 թթ. տվյալներով դոկտորական և թեկնածուական ատենախոսություններ պաշտպանածների միայն 15.3 տոկոսն է շարունակում մնալ գիտության մեջ: Ազգային ժողովում «Հանուն գիտության զարգացման» նախաձեռնության անդամների հետ կլոր սեղան-քննարկմանն այս մասին հայտնեց ՀՀ կրթության և գիտության նախարար Լևոն Մկրտչյանը` պատասխանելով նախաձեռնության անդամ Դավիթ Պետրոսյանի հարցին, թե ինչ հաշվարկների հիման վրա են իշխանության ներկայացուցիչները պնդում, որ ակադեմիական տարկետման իրավունքը շատ դեպքերում օգտագործվում է զինվորական ծառայությունից խուսափելու համար:

«2016-2017 թթ. դոկտորական ատենախոսություն է պաշտպանել 445 անձ, թեկնածուական ատենախոսություններ` 5032 անձ: 445 դոկտորներից միայն 191-ն է մնացել գիտության ոլորտում կամ 42.9 տոկոսը, իսկ թեկնածուներից  646-ը՝ կամ 12.8 տոկոսը: Ընդհանուրը 15.3 տոկոսն է մնում գիտության մեջ»,- «Արմենպրես»-ի փոխանցմամբ պարզաբանեց նախարարը:

Լևոն Մկրտչյանը նաև ներկայացրեց, որ գիտության մեջ հիմնականում շարունակում են մնալ բնական գիտությունների ոլորտի մասնագետները, իսկ մյուս մասնագիտությունների տեր անձինք հիմնականում չեն շարունակում գիտության մեջ մնալ և գործունեություն են ծավալում այլ ոլորտներում:
