Գիշեր էր: Արդեն մի քանի գործ արել էի: Տվել էի սուտինյոռի օրվա պլանն ու ուզում էի տուն գնալ, հանկարծ ու մի մեքենա կանգնեց:

«Ինչ էս ասում» հարցից հետո, եղավ հաջորդը. «Նստի»: Գնացինք հյուրանոց: Երբ կլիենտս մտավ լողանալու, իսկ ես հանվեցի, լույսը միացրած էր:

Ես ու ազգականս էինք, մի ազգանունն ունեինք, մի բակում էինք մեծացել, միմյանց հետ ապրել էինք, փոքր ժամանակ խաղացել, իրար թուշ էինք պաչել, ինքն իմ հարսանիքին էր հարբել ու պարել, ես էլ իր հարսանիքին էի պարել… Կյանքն անցել էր, ես դարձել էի մարմնավաճառ, ինձ տալիս էի ուրիշներին ու փող աշխատում, իսկ ինքը օգտվում էր իմ նմանների ծառայությունից:

Երբ ես հանկարծակիի եկա, տեսնելով արյունակցիս, ու արագ ծածկոցը գցեցի վրաս, ինքն էլ անակնկալի եկավ, ամաչեց, ու մտավ բաղնիք, բարձր կանչեց. «Շուշ հագնվի, նոր կմտնեմ»: Ես հագնվեցի, ինքն էլ հագնվեց ու եկավ: Նստած էինք, ինքը ծխում էր, ես էլ էի հասցրել արդեն ծխել սովորել: Մի երկու հատ ծխելուց հետո, միանգամից հարցրեց. «Մարդդ գիտի»:

Ես արդեն այլևս կորցնելու ոչինչ չունենալով, սկսեցի ծիծաղել: Ծիծաղս դառնություն էր, ցավ էր, վրեժ ու արյուն էր կոկորդումս:

Հարցը կրկնելու նման, երկրորդեց. «Բայց ինչի՞»: Իսկ ես: Ես խնդրեցի նրան հեռանալ, ու մոռանալ իմ մասին: Աղաչեցի, ընկա ոտքերն ու խնդրեցի, որ մեր բարեկամներին չասի, որ տեսել է ինձ, որ ես մարմնավաճառ եմ, որ ես կործանված մարդ եմ:

Հեռանալուց առաջ մի 100 դոլար թողեց, խնդրեց, որ մի քանի օր գործի դուրս չգամ, համարելով, որ ինքը իր կողմից մի քայլ է արել: Հեռացավ…

Նրա հեռանալուց անմիջապես հետո վերցրեցի գումարն ու դրեցի պայուսակս: Հաջորդ մի քանի օրերին գործի դուրս չեկա: Չէի կարողանում դեռ հանգստանալ:

Մարմնավաճառի կյանքը դառն է, իսկ շատերը դա չեն հասկանում: Այսպիսի դառնություններով ենք մենք ապրում: Ամեն մեկս, ամեն մի մարմնավաճառ իր հոգում խոր ցավ ունի: Ամեն մի մարմնավաճառ բախվում է նման խնդիրների: Մեր պետությունն ու տարածքը փոքր է, մարդիկ քիչ են, բոլորը բոլորին ճանաչում են: Ուզում էս փոխիր մազերիդ գույնը, ուզում էս դեմքիդ դիմակ դիր, ինչ ուզում էս արա, մարմնավճառ էս, քեզանից երես են թեքելու բոլորը:

Իմ ազգականները կամաց-կամաց սկսեցին ինձ ծնունդների և առիթների չհրավիրել, իմ ձեռքից չէին վերցնում բաժակ, ինձանից հեռու էին մնում, թույլ չէին տալիս, որ աղջիկս շփվի իրենց փոքր երեխաների հետ…

Արդեն բոլորը գիտեին, իրենց Շուշանիկը դարձել է Վիկա, և զբաղվում է մարմնավաճառությամբ: Ամենադաժան և անշնորհակալ մի զբաղմունքով, որին ստորադասում են բոլորը:
