Հանրապետության նախագահի նստավայրում օգոստոսի 24-ին տեղի է ունեցել ՀՀ նախագահ Արմեն Սարգսյանի եւ պաշտոնական այցով Հայաստանում գտնվող Գերմանիայի Դաշնային Հանրապետության կանցլեր Անգելա Մերկելի հանդիպումը, որին մասնակցել են երկու երկրների պատվիրակությունները:
 
Ինչպես տեղեկացրին ՀՀ նախագահի աշխատակազմի հասարակայնության հետ կապերի վարչությունից, ողջունելով կանցլեր Անգելա Մերկելին ու գերմանական պատվիրակությանը ՝ նախագահ Արմեն Սարգսյանը վստահություն է հայտնել, որ այս պատմական այցը նոր հորիզոններ կբացի հայ-գերմանական հարաբերությունների զարգացման համար: Սա կանցլեր Մերկելի առաջին պաշտոնական այցն է Հայաստան, բայց նա մեր երկրում եղել է նաև ավելի վաղ:
 
«Ուզում եմ գոհունակությամբ նշել, որ Հայաստանի եւ Գերմանիայի միջեւ հարաբերությունները խարսխված են փոխըմբռնման եւ խորը վստահության վրա: Գերմանիան Հայաստանի համար շատ կարեւոր գործընկեր է, բայց մեր համագործակցությունը հնարավորություն ունի շատ ավելի ընդլայնվելու տարբեր ոլոտներում: Եւ, իհարկե, չեմ կարող գոհունակությունս չհայտնել Գերմանիայի կողմից Հայոց ցեղասպանության ճանաչման ու նաեւ այն քաղաքական աջակցության համար, որ զգում ենք Եվրամիության հետ մեր համագործակցության ընթացքում, քանի որ Հայաստան- Եվրամիություն հարաբերությունները շատ կարեւոր նշանակություն ունեն մեզ համար»,-նշել է նախագահ Սարգսյանը:
 
Կանցլեր Անգելա Մերկելն իր գոհունակությունն ու շնորհակալությունն է հայտնել Հայաստանում հյուրընկալվելու համար. «Սիրելի՛ պարոն Սարգսյան: Ուրախ եմ հյուրընկալվելու ձեր երկրում եւ ուրախ եմ մեր հանդիպման համար: Անցյալ տարի մեր երկրները նշում էին դիվանագիտական հարաբերությունների հաստաման 25-ամյակը, եւ մենք այսօր արդեն կարող ենք ամփոփել, որ մեր հարաբերությունները դրական են: Համամիտ եմ Ձեզ հետ այն առումով, որ մեր հարաբերություններն ունեն չիրացված ներուժ, եւ այն պետք է օգտագործել ինչպես քաղաքական ու տնտեսական, այնպես էլ գիտահետազոտական եւ տեխնոլոգիաների ոլորտներում: Մենք ցանկանում ենք մեր մասնակցությունն ունենալ Հայաստանի կողմից հայտարարված բարեփոխումներին, ուշադրությամբ հետեւում էինք գարնանը ձեր երկրում տեղի ունեցած փոփոխություններին եւ գործընթացներին: Պատրաստ ենք շարունակել համագործակցել այս թերեւս դժվարին, բայց կարեւոր ճանապարհին»:
 
Հանդիպմանը զրուցակիցներն անդրադարձել են Հայաստան-ԵՄ համագործակցությանը, ինչպես նաեւ երկկողմ հարաբերությունները տարբեր՝ մշակութային, կրթական եւ գիտական ուղղություններով խորացնելու հնարավորություններին:
