Հեղինակավոր Bloomberg պարբերականը, անդրադառնալով Ստամբուլում Սաուդյան Արաբիայի հյուպատոսության շենքում սաուդացի ընդդիմադիր լրագրող Ջամալ Խաշկջիի սպանությանը, գրել է, որ Միացյալ Նահանգներն ու նրա դաշնակիցներն այժմ լուրջ ընտրության առաջ են կանգնած՝ հաշվի առնելով այդ երկրների տնտեսական ու ռազմավարական կապերը Սաուդյան Արաբիայի հետ:

Հոդվածի հեղինակն ընդգծում է, որ մինչ ԱՄՆ նախագահ Դոնալդ Թրամփը շեշտում է Էր Ռիադի հետ հարաբերությունների կարևորությունը, դաշնակից երկրները սկեպտիկ են վերաբերվել լրագրողի սպանության մասին լուրին: Մասնավորապես՝ Ֆրանսիան պահանջել է ավելի շատ մանրամասներ սպանության մասին, իսկ Գերմանիան դադարեցրել է զենքի վաճառքը Սաուդյան Արաբիային:

Նշվում է նաև, որ թեև Սաուդյան Արաբիայի իշխանությունները պնդում են, որ չգիտեն, թե որտեղ է Խաշկջիի մարմինը, ԱՄՆ-ում կասկածում են, որ Էր Ռիադում նախապես տեղյակ են եղել սպանության մասին:

Իրավիճակը նաև բարդացնում է այն հանգամանքը, որ ավելի վաղ սաուդյան կողմն այլ բացատրություններ էր տվել ու պնդել, որ լրագրողը դուրս է եկել հյուպատոսության շենքից:

Ավելի վաղ Սաուդյան Արաբիայի գլխավոր դատախազ Սաուդ ալ Մուաջիբը հայտարարել է, որ լրագրողը մահացել է Ստամբուլում Սաուդյան Արաբիայի հյուպատոսությունում վեճի ժամանակ: Այս գործով ձերբակալվել է 18 սաուդացի, ինչպես նաև պաշտոններից ազատվել են գահաժառանգ արքայազնի գլխավոր օգնականները, այդ թվում՝ ընդհանուր հետախուզության ծառայության ղեկավարի տեղակալ Ահմեդ Ասիրին:
