Մենք գիտենք, որ...

Եվան և Ադամը, դրախտում խաբվելով օձի կողմից, կերել են խնձորը՝ արգելված պտուղը, ինչի պատճառով էլ Աստծո կողմից վռնդվել են դրախտից:

Իրականում այդպես չէ:

Պարզվում է, որ Աստվածաշնչում ոչ մի տեղ նշված չէ, որ Ադամը և Եվան խնձորն են կերել, և որ արգելված պտուղը հենց խնձորն է: Ըստ Գրքի, դրախտում տարբեր տեսակի սովորական ծառերից զատ կար գերբնական հատկություն ունեցող երկու ծառ, այն է՝ «կյանքի ծառը» և «չարի ու բարու իմաստնության ծառը»: Մեր նախածնողներին թույլատրված էր ուտել բոլոր ծառերի պտուղները, ներառյալ «կյանքի ծառի» պտուղը, բայց արգելված էր «չարի ու բարու իմաստնության ծառի» պտուղը փորձել, չնայած այն ևս ուտելի էր: Օձը համոզում է Ադամին և Եվային փորձել այդ պտուղը, նրանք փորձում են, իսկ դրա հետևանքներն արդեն հայտնի են: Չգիտես ինչու ժամանակին առասպել է տարածվել, որ արգելված պտուղը եղել է խնձորը, և հետևաբար «չարի ու բարու իմաստնության ծառը» խնձորենին է: Հավանական է, որ այս մոլորությունը գալիս է միջնադարյան եվրոպական նկարչությունից, որտեղ Ադամին և Եվային օձի հետ նկարել են խնձորենու մոտ: Հարցն այն է, որ Եվրոպայում ամենատարածված պտուղը եղել է խնձորը, եվրոպացի նկարիչները հավանաբար երբեք էլ, ասենք, թուզ չէին տեսել, որը այնտեղ չի էլ աճում: Չպետք է մոռանալ նաև, որ Ադամն ու Եվան իրենց մերկությունը ծածկել են հենց թզենու տերևով և ոչ թե խնձորենու: Իհարկե, վարկածները չեն սահմանափակվում թզով և խնձորով: Ընդհանրապես համարվում է, որ եթե պտուղը բարու և չարի իմաստնության է, նշանակում է՝ այն յուրահատուկ ու «արիստոկրատ» պետք է լինի: Տարբեր ժողովուրդների մոտ այդպիսի պտուղները տարբեր են, բոլորն ունեն իրենց պաշտելի պտուղը: Այդպիսով, այդ արգելված պտուղը մեծ հաջողությամբ կարող էր լինել նուռը, որին, ի դեպ, Եվրոպայում խնձոր էլ ասում էին, կամ էլ, ասենք, ծիրանը, դեղձը, մանգոն, անանասը և այլն: «Արգելված պտուղ» հասկացությունը առկա է նաև այլ կրոններում: Օրինակ, հրեաները ասում են, որ արգելված պտուղը ուտելն արգելված է եղել միայն շաբաթ օրերին, և եթե Ադամը մի օր ուշ ուտեր, ամեն ինչ նորմալ կլիներ:

Մի խոսքով, այն համոզմունքը, որ արգելված պտուղը խնձորն է և ոչ թե, ասենք, թուզը, իր խոր հետքն է թողել ոչ միայն արվեստում, կինոյում, գրականության մեջ, այլ նաև անգամ գիտատեխնիկական առաջընթացում: Պատկերացրեք, որ Նյուտոնի գլխին թուզ ընկներ: Կամ էլ apple–ի անունը մի քիչ երկար լիներ՝ pineapple, իսկ խորհրդանիշն էլ լիներ կծած անանասը...
