Աշխարհում կենդանիների առնվազն 600 տեսակ կա, որոնք ներառված չեն Կարմիր գրքում, սակայն անհետացման վտանգի տակ են: Այս մասին հոդվածը հրապարակվել է Conservation Biology-ում:

«Երբ վայրի բնության պահպանության միջազգային միության մասնագետները աշխատում են Կարմիր գրքի նոր տարբերակների վրա, ապա  նրանք, որպես կանոն, ժամանակ չունեն տասնյակ հազարավոր տեսակների տվյալների որակյալ վերամշակման համար: Հետեւաբար գրքում ներկայացված տեղեկատվությունը կարող է հնացած կամ իրականությանը չհամապատասխանող լինել:

Արդյունքում գիտնականները պարզապես չեն նկատում անհետացող տեսակների որոշակի տոկոսը», —ասում է հետազոտության հեղինակներից մեկը՝  Նեյմեգենի համալսարանից Լուկա Սանտինին: Անհետացման ուղղակի վտանգն, ինչպես նշում է Սանտինին, առկախված է կենդանիների եւ բույսերի 5 հազար տեսակների վրա:

«Այն փաստը, որ Կարմիր գրքում չկա կենդանիների մի ամբողջ շարք, որոնք անհետացղման եզրին են, խոսում է այն մասին, որ գրքի նոր տարբերակների համար օգտագործվող մեթոդները, շատ են հնացել:  Հետեւաբար Կարմիր գրքի վրա աշխատող գիտնականները պետք է անհապաղ յուրացնեն նոր տեխնոլոգիաները, հակառակ դեպքում գիրքը կդադարի իր գլխավոր գործառույթներն իրականացնել», — հավելել է նա, գրում է Planet-today-ը:
