Վաշինգտոնը պատրանքներ ունի, թե Միացյալ Նահանգների եւ Իրաքի միջեւ հարաբերությունները կարող են ավելի ամուր դառնալ, քան Իրանի ու Իրաքի հարաբերությունները։ Այս մասին ասել է Վուդրո Վիլսոնի միջազգային կենտրոնի Մերձավոր Արեւելքի հարցերով աշխատակից Մարինա Օթավեյը, տեղեկացնում է Think Progress-ը։

«Ես այնքան էլ վստահ չեմ, որ պետքարտուղար Մայք Պոմպեոն կկարողանա հասնել դրան, որովհետեւ ազդանշանը շատ հստակ է. Իրաքը չի պատրաստվում, Միացյալ Նահանգներին դուր գալու համար, դիմակայել Իրանին»,- ասել է նա։

Այս շաբաթ  Պոմպեոն չհայտարարված այց է կատարել Իրաք՝ Իրանի հետ լարվածության ֆոնին։

Բայց Իրաքը չի ցանկանում ներքաշվել այդ լարվածության մեջ։ Իրաքի վարչապետ Աբդել Աբդուլ Մահդին նշել է, որ թեեւ ԱՄՆ-ը Իրաքի «կարեւոր ռազմավարական գործընկերն է», երկիրը պետք է շարունակի «կամուրջների անցկացման հավասարակշռված քաղաքականություն»՝ համագործակցելով դաշնակիցների եւ հարեւանների, այդ թվում Իրանի հետ։
