1988 թվականին ամերիկյան Համակարգչային սարքավորումների ասոցիացիան նոյեմբերի 30-ը հռչակել է Տեղեկատվության պաշտպանության միջազգային օր (Computer Security Day), փոխանցում է Calend.ru-ն:

Օրվա նպատակն է, որը հայտնի է նաեւ որպես Համակարգչային անվտանգության օր, օգտատերերին հիշեցնել իրենց համակարգիչների եւ դրանցում պահպանվող ամբողջ տեղեկատվության պաշտպանվածության անհրաժեշտության մասին:

Օրը հռչակելով՝ Ասոցիացիան մտադիր էր բոլորին հիշեցնել համակարգչային տեղեկատվության պաշտպանության անհրաժեշտության մասին, ինչպես նաեւ սարքավորումների եւ ծրագրային միջոցների արտադրողների ու օգտատերերի ուշադրությունը հրավիրել անվտանգության խնդիրների շուրջ:

1988 թվականը պատահական չէ ընտրվել. հենց այդ տարում է գրանցվել «որդի» առաջին զանգվածային համաճարակը, որն իր ստեղծողի՝ Մորիսի անունն է ստացել:Հենց այդ ժամանակ են մասնագետները սկսել մտածել տեղեկատվական անվտանգության ապահովման համալիր մոտեցման անհրաժեշտության մասին: Չնայած առաջին համակարգչային վիրուսի նախատիպը հայտնվել էր արդեն 1983 թվականին:

Այդ ժամանակից ի վեր Համակարգչային սարքավորումների ասոցիացիայի նախաձեռնությամբ այս օրը անցկացվում են տեղեկատվության պաշտպանության միջազգային համաժողովներ, որոնք ուղեկցվում են մեծ թվով հետաքրքիր ու օգտակար միջոցառումներով:

Մասնավորապես, հաղորդվում է վնասի չափի մասին, որը ստացվում է չպաշտպանված սարքավորման պատճառով: Օրինակ՝ 2000 թվականին տարածված «I love you» համակարգչային վիրուսից ստացված վնասը միայն Հյուսիսային Ամերիկայում կազմել է մեկ միլիարդ դոլար:

Ամեն տարի Օրն անցկացվում է որոշակի կարգախոսի ներքո, որը տպագրվում է պաստառների եւ այլ տպագիր նյութերի վրա, որոնք թողարկվում տոնի առիթով: Մի քանի տարի շարունակ բոլոր անցկացվող միջոցառումների հիմքում ընկած էր հիշեցման գաղափարը, որ յուրաքանչյուր օգտատեր պետք է անձամբ պատասխանատվություն կրի եւ ապահովի իր տեղեկատվական ակտիվների ու ռեսուրսների պաշտպանությունը:
